Bieksa for B.Schenn is what I'm hearing will go down at the draft. You guys will love him in Philly.

If the NHL puts that on the table in the next CBA negotiation. There won't be a season that year.

What the hell is the difference between a "guaranteed contract" and the contracts they hand out now to players

Yeah, no way the PA would ever give up guaranteed contracts, especially since they "lost" the last CBA.

Oh so like you can just cut people like the NBA and NFL? Is that what we're talking about here?

I honestly don't know what to think at this point. If they REALLY liked and had ZERO reservations, I suspect he'd have a contract by now, given past history.

My gut says they like Brayden Schenn, but they'd ship him out in a cocaine heartbeat in the right deal.

/my gut is often wrong and stupid

If you look at the list of quality players that are RFA's on July 1, that haven't re-signed yet, it's a long list with a lot of quality players on it. I don't think it has anything to do with not liking a player or having reservations. I just think it's about negotiating and not being able to come to an agreement at this point in time. Obviously the two sides are far apart.

Last night I was kind of thinking outloud and I left a long post of rambling, so I decided to try again.
Ron Hextall is coming from a team that has a legit number one defenseman in Drew Doughty. We do not have a Drew Doughty. Getting a Drew Doughty will be a tall task. So I ask, if getting Shea Weber meant keeping both Luke Schenn and Nicolas Grossmann, while not resigning Timonen and shipping Coburn plus to Nashville. Would you do it? The future is bright for Nashville as far as defenseman with offensive ability and nice puck moving ability but they might be missing a capable shut down defenseman if Weber is moved. Laviolette knows Coburn. Laviolette knows exactly what Coburn can do. Coburn might even be to Laviolette, what Hatcher was to Hitchcock in the late 90's. So does it make sense for Nashville to trade Weber for let's say Coburn (who is roughly the same age as Weber), two high draft picks and a young player of theit choosing not named Couturier? Personally I don't think Nashville will ever get fair value for a Shea Weber.

Also would you dangle Voracek to Toronto or Ottawa for Ryan or van Riemsdyk? This isn't a knock against Voracek but I do feel either guy is an upgrade to play with Giroux. While Voracek has nice speed for a player his size, great hands and impressive passing ability, both Ryan and JvR have impressive hands as well but specialize in their accurate shot. We need that. Giroux needs this.

What's on the UFA market just isn't doing it for me. Sure you can fill holes that way but not the way we need. I say try and take advantage of a team that needs to make room for cap space or looking to move on from certain players that clearly have no future where they currently are.

What it really means is every cent of the contract is guaranteed. The NFL you often see guys sign deals for $20mm, with only half guaranteed. In the NHL if you sign for $20mm, you get $20mm.

I think he will be really good #2 plus getting the #6 overall would allow us to draft someone like Ehlers, Ritchie, Nylander, Perlini, or Virtanen

Ohhhhh I see. Sort of.

How exactly does that work? Is it like a clause...?

Say a contract pays 34 mil over 6 years: 7 mil, 7 mil, 6, 5, 5, 4, with 20 mil guaranteed

Does that mean the player can't be cut until after the 3rd year of his contract is over?

New stuff next year:

-proposed making trapezoid bigger to allow goalies more room to play puck

-proposed switching goals at start of OT and giving ice a "dry scrape" in an effort to eliminate shootouts

-proposed widen hash marks on zone face offs to five feet apart rather than 3.5 to reduce scrums

Better, but you'd really have to love Brodie to want to pull the trigger on that. I honestly don't see him, nor Tanev, having enough upside to be gambling away Brayden Schenn over.

The 4-6 pick might yield a good player... but then again, maybe 17 does too. I want a crack at Ehlers or Draisaitl as much as the next guy, but they are faaaarrr away and neither seems like a slam dunk.

It means that the team can terminate the contract at any point, yet the player has a minimum amount of "guaranteed" money they receive if/when they get cut. So they are guaranteed to get a large (enough) portion of it, knowing full well that there's little chance of them actually getting the full amount of their contract.

Opens up a bonus structure. Example, a real popular clause in NFL deal is a roster bonus, where a player gets money if he's on a roster on a certain date. If player is good enough teams pay bonus, but if there's a cap crunch or they don't want to pay, they cut or trade the guy.

DeSean Jackson had one, IIRC. So did Terrell Owens
