All 1st round prospects fallen to the 2nd

Chicago had Saad and Keith who were 2nd rounders. Hjarlmarsson was a 3rd (I think)

- sbroads24

Perfect examples. If I'm TM you can keep that top 2nd rounder no matter what and it'll be a first round talent most likely. The other 2nd rounders are still good. Imagine if we never traded the Kings their 2nd rounders back for Facshing and Delauriers? Looking like they'll be almost third rounders anyway so good job TM

Any thoughts on the assistant coaches?

Buffalo has 3 picks in the 2nd rd (one of which is the first overall pick of rd 2)...

Just to sample the room here, would you guys rather see the Sabres try to package those 3 second rounders to get back into the middle of round one?

Or just stand pat with those 2nds and play the odds of the numbers game?

Out of 3 picks (in rd.2), probability suggests at least one will pan out into an NHL player (maybe more), but the likelihood of that player displaying top-end game breaking talent is surely diminished by rd.2. After all... Andrew Peters was 2nd rd pick Blythe Sabres.

I would like to see the Sabres jump back into the first round, especially if they could get Alex Tuch or another big bodied winger that could be a top 6 scorer/sniper. I just think there will be a log jam of youth with all the picks in the last two years and these next two drafts. If TM can take advantage and get a better prospect for a few later picks I'm in.

I would like to think C. Ramsays knowledge with Ted Nolans passion could be a good combination. I'm not sure if he is in the mix though. It would seem as though Peca and Nolan would be a logical fit too, but I'm not sure if Peca can jump right to the NHL coaching ranks and be successful yet.

Those are my thoughts on Peca, as well.

Rammer has wanted to come back to Buffalo for a long time however he wasn't going to until Darcy was gone. I think he has a good shot of being here. Irbe most likely and maybe Cunneyworth. I think Peca stays as GM of the junior Sabres at least for this year.

On paper, that sounds like a coaching staff with a ton of heart, smarts and some "players'coaches".

I dig it

Haven't posted on here in a while.. Been a bit busy and have tried not to get too into my head about this draft.. As most of you remember I am and have always been a big supporter of Reinhart.. That being said I think the big surprise could come a team trading to number 1 not for Ekblad but for Reinhart.. That team very well could be Vancouver who could really use the center especially if they say goodbye to Kesler.. I like a few others have pointed out also have a strange feeling Murray likes Draisaitl. Just his comments about being pretty confident the player they like the most will be there at 2.. out of Reinhart Ekblad Bennett and Draistaitl the only one I personally could guarentee to be there at 2 would be Draistaitl.. Now if that's who he was talking about or not we wont obviously find out till the draft but just a thought I've been brewing for a few weeks now and just am posting now.
- bluengold12

Murray's quotes could just be posturing
Its possible that either...
A) he's saying that to make Edm think we like Draisaitl best to see if they'd trade up with us
B) he's nervous that Fla is gonna take our guy, and we want to trade up, BUT... We don't wanna come out and say that bc then they'd have all the leverage & be able to raise the price

U guys should prob take all the stuff u hear from Murray & Devine with a grain of salt
Its not like they're actually gonna come out & let other teams know what our draft strategy is

I hope you are joking. Calgary would never do this! Gaudreau may be small but he is going to have no problem being a star in the NHL.

If Calgary made an offer to the Sabres like this Buffalo would be all over it.

- flyerdude17

Gaudreau a star? A tad over board no? He could possibly be a regular contributor but a star? No way. Reinhart will be better then Gaudreau.

A) Agree with you totally

B) I don't think Murray wants to trade up. No point really. We will get the player we desperately need in either Bennett, Reinhart or Draisaitl and if Ekblad is still available then building an even more potent defense wouldn't be a bad idea. Work on our forwards for next season's draft with our 3 picks in the first round.

Personally, I really can't see Murray trading up either... There just hasn't been enough of a consensus #1 all season.

There was even some speculation (before the combine) that Tallon & Fla could even lean twards drafting the Towes-esque Sam Bennett (though if Fla wants Bennett, trading down would make more sense).

I think Murray's comments (about his guy still being there) had more to do with the overiding thought that Ekblad will be going 1st overall.

If the price isn't too high its conceivable that Murray could move up
We saw that he gave up a pretty hefty price to get a guy he wanted in Fasching
Just bc there isn't a "consensus" top pick, doesn't mean there isn't a guy that Murray heavily covets
There very well could be a guy that Murray thinks is a step above the rest
I wouldn't expect that he'd trade up, but it wouldn't shock me either

Lots of talk in the Blackhawks threads that Sharp is on the block. They also think Kessler is being targeted for them
