He was providing offense, but he wasn't exactly good. He did have 9 goals. 3 of them came against the Isles, playing RW with Giroux. 5 of them were PP goals. He was still middling, at best, 5 on 5.

To me it boils down to how he fits. I just don't see where he does, unless he's pushing a young player out of position.

As for selling low, I'm usually one of the biggest advocates of maximizing assets. In this case, the biggest assets for me are the cap relief & opening a spot for a natural LW to be added to the roster.

the entire team was middling, at best, 5 on 5.

I'm not opposed to what you are suggesting... IF there is a good move to be made. His $4.5 million won't go that far in FA which is why I hesitate.

I'm not trading him if they only get a 5th and have to eat $$$. I'd like a 4th and eat no money at least or I don't blink.

I'm fine with him staying or going. I like Lecavalier and would like to see him get a second chance. I actually believe we're better with him then without. However, I'm really not that emotionally invested.

It has to make sense, but if they eat every cent...I'd strongly consider a 5th rounder

We have family plans. Wife demands us to go to church-I agree to go because it means I get left alone during hockey games- and then we're headed out. But I have to pack car, get gas, make sure the kids bring the stuff they need to bring...would have done it tonight, but we had soccer & softball playoffs and I worked until 6

I would still try to get a 4th and maybe send back a 5th or 6th, but yeah, freeing up cap space is the key. Just can see the $4.5 spent for bigger needs.

They were middling at 5 on 5, but he was among the weakest...and that was against a lot of shielded competition & managed zone starts. That's the kind of stuff that worries me-he faced the worst competition, got the most favorable starting positions and ended up among the worst guys on the team.

Even with all that, my biggest concern remains that I simply don't think he fits well with what the new GM and fairly new coach say they want to do.

I'm looking at the FA list - who would you get to replace him that is a natural LW?

That'd be better.

The $4.5mm helps, it might not get a cure all, but it might get a guy like Jussi Jokinen who is a better fit-plays wing or center, is a good two way player, can be used in any situation, good skater, good in shootouts-or even a guy like Milan Michalek who could be a pretty decent reclamation project.

Jokinen, Michalek, Kulemin would be at the top of my list

EDIT: can also bump Read up and go after a more 3rd line type winger.

the names that have been floating around are Benoit Pouliot on, Nikolai Kulemin and Jussi Jokinen. I'll admit that Jussi Jokinen is the best option but I don't see any reason for the Pens to allow him to walk away unless they are serious about Ryan Kesler.

He gets hit with a hunk of frozen, vulcanized rubber traveling 100 MPH...Jeff Carter brushes by him, and he's dropping like a sniper got him

Honestly - none of those guys are that appealing to me. Kulemin, No. Jussi, too small. Michalek, maybe.

I might have interest in Moulson depending on the asking price.

All 3 of them are good skaters and capable two way players. Moulson is slow, he can score, but he's not going to provide the two way game and skating the Flyers really need, and more importantly, seem to want to adopt.

Michalek played all 82 games but had an awful season. Prior to this season he's had a tough time staying healthy. In my opinion, he's a long ways from what he once was.
