That's not what I said. Plus, I suspect it's a bit different in Manhattan.

Anyhow, the law is there for a reason. You want to question its validity, put yourself in a position to do so. Otherwise, if you don't abide by it, you risk the consequences of breaking it.

i don't argue the validity of the law. but the application of the law in this instance... we all know what it was. this is a huge intersection with no countdown to red, and when you cross, you cross on the shorter light. if you're looking to ticket people for crossing the intersection on a red, even if it was red for only 3-4 seconds of your cross, this is like fish in a barrel for them. but the fact that he lied about the light being red when i started leads me to believe that what i did, did not break the law, or at worst, i was in a very grey area.

You're really overreacting...if I ever took motorcycle lessons I'd be listening to the guy who obviously knows a lot more than I do. Not the same as crossing the street when there are no cars around but the light is red...apples and oranges.

i crossed on a red. yes, crossed. not drove, crossed.
light was clearly green when i started and turned red more than halfway through. it's a long cross, a good 20 seconds. (University at Notre Dame.) so the cop pulls up to me and tells me i crossed on a red. i told him it was green for at least half the time. then he lied to my face and told me it was red. which makes sense. i crossed for 20 seconds on a red light in Quebec and not a single driver honked.
anyway the ticket is only $40 but it's completely unjustified. i don't know whether it's worth it to contest and i'm guessing that's why he ticketed me, because who contests a $40 ticket?
