that announcing job by buccigross was probably the worst i've ever heard in any sport, ever.

I try to give Bucci the benefit of the doubt, because he's the only guy at ESPN that seems to care about hockey, even a little.

But, you're not wrong.

That's because it took place under the 2011-12 criteria?

$1,034,249 annual cap hit or less: No compensation
$1,034,249 — $1,567,043: Third-round pick
$1,567,043 — $3,134,088: Second-round pick
$3,134,088 — $4,701,131: First and third-round pick
$4,701,131 — $6,268,175: First, second and third-round pick
$6,268,175 — $7,835,219: Two first-round picks, a second and third
$7,835,219 and higher: Four first-round picks

Weber AAV: $7,857,143

- Tomahawk

Where did you find that at?

It was 4 first rounders. The number wasn't based on cap hit. It was based on the actual amount paid over the first 6 years or something.
- PhillySportsGuy

Not sure whether it was 4 first rounders or not. But the last part is absolutely incorrect. OS compensation has always been determined by cap hit.

I agree with you. I don't mind reading his articles.

I understand the NHL isn't as popular around the US, but they never show highlights anymore.

I used to love when Sportscenter was just highlights. Now, it's all just discussion.

Jaekel the Hawks blogger is saying Leddy, Oduya and Sharparein play. Want a center and some size. Would anyone do something that involed Schenn for Leddy?

likewise, and i actually admired how into the game he was. he truly enjoyed it and loves the game, no question. he just came off as a star-struck fan pretending to be an announcer. it was far from professional, and it just goes to show that the guys who do it for a living are all pretty good...it is NOT the same as being a studio reporter, host, etc.

Compensation in the form of draft picks for the Predators should they choose not to match the Flyers offer is tied to the average per-year cap hit of the offer sheet. It is expected the Predators would receive four first round draft picks.

Weber compensation was 4 1st rounders because of a clause in the old CBA

http://blogs.edmontonjour...with-philadelphia-flyers/

As for that compensation, while at first blush it appears that Weber’s annual cap hit is below the ~$8.4 MM that triggers the maximum compensation of four first-rounders, because of the length of the term it is subject to the following clause:

“If the prior club declines its Right to First Refusal, it will be entitled to draft pick compensation based on the annual annual value of the new deal. This is determined by dividing total compensation by the less of the number of years of the offer sheet, or five“

Thus for purposes of compensation, Weber’s calculation is simply $100+ MM / 5 = $20+ MM = maximum comp. The tail in the contract will help Philly’s books for salary cap purposes, but it will not provide a further advantage of lowering the compensation. Funny that the rules in one segment of the CBA are designed to thwart those who would tailor long-term pacts to beat the system, while other segments of the same document allow such contract gerrymandering as a matter of course.

What about that CBA section at the bottom of that blog post?

10.4 Draft Choice Compensation for Restricted Free Agents

Any Club that is entitled to but does not exercise its Right of First Refusal pursuant to Section 10.3 shall be entitled to obtain Draft Choice Compensation from the New Club. The number and quality of draft choices due to the Prior Club shall be based on the average annual value of the compensation contained in the Principal Terms (as defined in Section 10.3(e) hereof) of the New Club's Offer Sheet (determined by dividing such compensation by the lesser of the number of years of the Offer Sheet or five)

I don't recall seeing that five years thing before

EDIT: Leight

That was for the 12/13 season. According to the CBA, it increases at the same rate of the NHL's averag salary. So it goes up every year.

I'm only willing to trade Schenn in a deal involving a legitimate top defenseman. Or at least one with a better pedigree.

Agree. I like Leddy and all, but I feel a package including Schenn could have far better value.

I can't decide if I'm happy that Maria Sharapova and her prissy, pissed-off self with great legs will be playing on Saturday, or if I'm saddened that adorable, cute, girl next door Eugenie Bouchard will not.

I think you owe me an apology. I wasn't right, but I wasn't completely off base either as you suggested.
