There's also the matter of that Toes guy...he needs to be locked up still too.

I can't really imagine a scenario where he doesn't re-sign. Things would have to go very, very bad.

Michael Pachla: Sabres may be leaning towards quality over quantity at the draft
- Michael Pachla

Of course the number of contracts is a bit off the table as many / most / all of whom we draft this year won't actually sign their pro deal with us until they've had a bit more seasoning.

But overall, our need for depth players is pretty low, so taking a shot at what could develop into elite talent at the cost of some prospect depth makes sense, especially with the number of 2nds we have this year and next. There's also the Blues 1st next year.

Me too, buddy. Me too. Puppy, work and 3 work trips in 4 weeks are killing my HB time.

I'm swamped at work, which is when I was getting most of my HB time in before. I'm pretty much doing the work of 2 people, so that cuts out a lot of my "free" time.

Draisaitl intrigues me, but Reinhart is probably the safer pick. Reading that Devine thinks he's the best playmaker to come out of junior in ten or fifteen years gets me excited

Does a good Assistant GM or GM show their cards weeks before the draft? That was hyperbole. Is he a better play maker than Crosby? Tavares? MacKinnon? Kane? Toews? etc? etc?

You know what?

I don't give a sh!t anymore.

I'm done talking about this draft until it happens. Everybody is an expert in all-things-draft on here, and I'm obviously the idiot here.

Have fun.

What does it matter when you draft #2 . Do you think Florida will drop all their scouting reports because Buffalo likes Reinhart ? I just hope Ekbald goes #1 so we are not even tempted to pick him and we take one of the Sam's . Reinhart is my hope.

I'm sorry, that wasn't really meant to be directed at you but at the argument that Reinhart is the best playmaker in the last 10-15 years.

To build up the worth of Reinhart to increase the value of the pick in case they want to make a deal. To try to goad Florida into taking him if they really want Ekblad or Bennett even though it won't work. I just don't think a pro personnel guy is honest in public about talent in an upcoming draft and neither should he be.

I think you are reading a little too much into this.

It definitely could be a smokescreen, or he could be just talking about the prospect. I didn't hear the interview, but I don't think he flat out said Reinhart was their guy. I think he mentioned that all of the top 4 players could be their pick

I think Florida has done their homework . They have the #1 pick . You really think they are tuning into WGR to see who Buffalo likes and are going to choose that player . Making all there work meaningless. I think you are reading way too much into this. All the announcer asked what they liked about Reinhart if that was their pick. He spoke well of Bennett as well.

I didn't hear the interview either except saw with the quote about Reinhart being the best playmaker he has seen in the last 10-15 years. He's almost putting him on the level of a poor man's Gretzky. That is absurd.

It's not where they play their cards, it's publically stating how they truly feel about players. I just don't think that's done.

He spoke highly of the top 4 with each players positive points . You should at least listen to the interview before you discount it. Nowhere did he say Reinhart was their guy !

I saw the main quotes about each player on another site but haven't had a chance to hear the full interview yet.

The link is above . Please listen before commenting anymore . He gave reasons why each player will be a fine pick none favored . Your bias towards Bennett is why you rush to judgement on the other possible picks and want to discount any of their positive points . He favored no one ! as the pick we should take. By the way he said Bennett was the most skilled at this time.

Which IMO he's right about

Reinhart ****IMO**** has the least talent or upside of the 4 players (Bennett, Ekblad, Draisaitl, Reinhart) but he's the safest and probably the most NHL ready.

I liked Devine's "one of the best playmakers I've seen in the past 20 years" comment.

I do too. I just think he doesn't have the upside as the others.

I would bet on him panning out to be a good player over all of them including Ekblad. He's the safest pick to be a 55-65 point good 2C. The other ones are more boom/bust
