I think the idea here is questioning the definition of what is an elite player. According to this blog, it is defined by points.

We've seen over the years how talented Ovechkin is. He scores almost at will.

But looking at his career, do you consider him to be a better player than Toews or Kopitar or even Datsyuk who are both much more complete than Ovechkin?

Edit:
In this day and age, where systems are becoming more and more important in teams success, I guess it could be said that Player X is an Elite Scorer, while player Y is an Elite "player".

I agree. But the blog was about 5on5 scoring last 3 years. I see it as your last line.... Clearly kessel elite scorer in this league over part 3 years. Just chuckling about people complaining about lack of this player or that player. He didn't just pick and chose who he's comparing, it's just straight stats comparison. Those guys just didn't make the cut on those criteria.

the title clearly states it's talking about the elite in 5 v 5 scoring.

it's not talking about the best players in the league.

He's looking at 5v5 points so apperently Kopitar, giroux and ovie don't score enough 5v5

There is one very distinct disadvantage that both Kessel and Bozak suffer from. Neither have the opportunity to play against the Leafs!!

At the moment he is. I am no leaf lover, but Kessel is a great player and one of the best wing snipers in the game right now.

He just suffers from playing on the Leafs, the Dallas Cowboys of the NHL. Everyone (TSN, ESPN, CBC etc) talks about them and says they will make the playoffs. They all think they have a team that can compete for a cup... and every year they manage to let all those people down and not even make the playoffs.

If Kessel played in Boston; he would be considered, almost without a doubt, a league-wide recognized super-star. Nevertheless, he plays on the Leafs and hasn't seen much of the playoffs and may or may not moving forward into the future (though he may is more likely). Playoffs define your stock, and he sadly doesnt have much to draw on.

Patches is great for what he does, but given his size and talent he somewhat underperforms. If he crashed the net more often (Kreider like) he would probably be an 80 point+ per year player... but he likes to sit around the periphery way too much.

CBC I'd agree with.

TSN seems to always have a Canucks hard on on the national channel.

Sportsnet just is all over the place.

So much Ovi bashing, do people not remeber how good the Capitals were only a few seasons ago? They lost to a hot goalie( Halak) and the organziation panicked and has made terrible moves ever since. And surprise surprise, their coach and longtime GM we canned. The xenophobia is astounding on about Ovi, and russian players in general.

That bozak isn't a true #1 center. He's playing with players who put up points, but he himself isn't getting any. He doesn't set up plays to create chances for his linemates. He's just feasting off pts garnered by others. He's not good defensively. He;s not physical and gritty hard to paly against. He makes no no better. He's riding coat tails.

First post.

I couldn't read any further as this post is full of holes. You sir are not a Leaf fan, just a hater.

Doesn't set up plays or create chances for his line mates? He finished second on the team in first assists and second in Points/60 while 5 0n 5. That tells me he sets up plays and creates chances.

The only top 6 forward and one of only a couple on the team with a plus rating. All while playing top minutes. Not bad defensively on a very weak defensive team.

For the Leafs he finishes near the top year in and year out in takeaways while finishing well down the list in giveaways. Doesn't sound all that easy to play against.

It was painfully obvious that without him the line clearly suffered. They tried to move van Riemsdyk it got so bad. You could make a case that anyone who's played with him has had career years including Lupul.

Most players who sign lucrative contracts mail it in. Bozak, after signing for $4.2 million has a career year.

The Bozak hate is a head scratcher at best.

I don't see any facts that you have posted.

Bozak finished 17th in P/G this season. Better than any centre on 14 teams.
