For (frank)s sake.. he was just saying that, in his example, no team hosting the Draft over the past 25 years has drafted in the top three. No teams have made that kind of splash either. Plain and simple... no team has made a "move into the top 3 of the draft to get the 1st 2nd or 3rd pick" SPLASH. (frank).

EDIT: DONE.. have fun.

Yes, I was referring to a specific kind of "splash", trading into the top-3 to pander to the home crowd. I was just pointing out that there's no precedent for it.

Maybe I should have been far more explicit with the parameters of my argument, because seems a lot of people got carried away by the word splash and didn't notice that it was sitting inside quotations.

1. The Flyers should be gunning for the playoffs

2. There is very little difference in the expected outcome/probability of an NHLer of guys drafted in the 8-20 range. Trading up from #17 to #10, for example, is a complete waste of assets, imo.

I guess that may be correct statistically. I just think that you can't afford to pay that price and get the wrong guy, or have the player chosen not pan out. I want an established player for that cost.

I'd agree to that but I can't believe you'd find a top pairing dman for that offer. It's much more probable to move up.

Trade the #17 pick for a quality bottom-6 player and a second round pick. Use said second round pick to draft the next Subban/Weber.

Perhaps there would be more in the deal, but the gist of my reply is that the Flyers should be dangling their assets for immediate upgrades to the current roster. Not moving up in the draft.

Any chance they could trade the #17 pick straight up for the #10 pick?

Now that school's out for the year and he's not on here, I'm guessing stayinthefnnet is working on some sort of voodoo curse to keep Pierre far away from the Pens.

I don't know that I disagree with that -- in a weaker draft, and because the Flyers do need another quality third-line player, I don't know that you don't go "bird in the hand" and take a shot in the second round

Can't be scared to move down in a weaker draft year
