Normally I'd say spot on to anyone who says we suck, but you're right, your future is much brighter without a 1st round pick until 2016. Enjoy this time in the finals while you can, soak it all in!

first time for him going to the cup in 20 years let him enjoy it.

Team is fairly young and if the Devils weren't gifted a 1st round pick you'd be in the same boat this year, not to mention Lou has struck out in recent years, Rangers still have some chips like Skjei, Miller, Fast, Lindberg, Kristo, Duclair and Haggerty

It's not really so much a gift when there was zero justification for it being taken away in the first place, which isn't really as much a matter of opinion as it is a fact, compared to other select contracts. It's like traffic profiling, which is illegal. Same sort of nonsense. So good for us, we get to pick 30th instead of 11th. Great gift.

Gifted a first? It should have never been taken away. The commish is a clown and so are you for siding with him.

We wouldn't at all be in the same boat, you traded two 1st's for St. Louis. That means you won't pick in the top round both this year AND next year, two notably deep drafts. Not to mention the 2nd you gave up in the Clowe trade. That's a lot of gaps in your drafting and development for the next three years.

Devs have at least held onto their high round picks.

I don't care what Rags fans want to call that guy in net, but I will NEVER refer to him as King. Hearing a Devils fan call Henrik that name makes me cringe!

Interesting interview, thanks for posting. The interesting parts I found were the discussions on Tedenby, Josefson and Larsson.

I thought Conte sounded concerned about Josefson's development and still hopeful for Larsson.

The hockey analytics comments is what I would expect from someone in his position.

but if they keep playing well and pick 20-30th, then that 1st isn't missed as much. And losing a 2nd for 1 year also isn't a big detriment. Losing Parise and Kovy on the other hand..
no one besides St. Louis and replacable-Richards is out of their prime, nor will they be for a few years.. (eh except Moore is 33.. which isn't really OLD) when Nash should start to slow down when he hits his mid 30s. St. Louis is one of their best players too.. really just Richards isn't that great, but he'll either be bought out, traded, or maybe they ride him for.. 6 more years??

Either way, that's just 1 guy. The whole Rangers team is in the 30 and under club except Richards (34), Moore (33), and Lundqvist (32).

So they're set as far as age goes, for at least 5 solid years.
Nash, Richards, Lundqvist, Girardi, McDonagh, Klein, are the only players signed past next season. .. which is good because at least the D core/G is set, but they're going to have to spend to keep Stephan, Brassard, Zuccarello, Hagelin, even Staal if he continues to improve from that injury. Those are 5 players worthy of 4+ mil. So including previously mentioned players, that's about 56-60k on what will probably be a 70k cap... 11 players signed. It may be worth it to keep that core together tho. .. but Richards really should be bought out- 6.6mil until the end of 2019-20 season.

I just had a chance to actually listen to the whole interview.

The reporter brings up Larsson and Josefson separately in the same context and basically says that every time they get a chance to play and develop, "aww shucks" they get injured. What a terrible coincidence that they can't stay healthy.

It just goes to show you how most people don't even understand the concept of why you need to get stronger and fill out your body as a teenager before you play in the NHL.

When you start your career at 18-20 years old like these guys did...you're weak. You're a weak little kid and there is more of a chance that you physically can't handle the game. That leads to more in game mistakes and more potential for injuries.

It shouldn't be an "aww shucks" moment.

It's also the exact same reason Reid Boucher (20) struggled at times this season. Reporters that do this for a living should be more aware.

Sucking for 5 or 6 years? I'll take it! It's better than sucking for 20 years!
