Kane doesn't walk. If he does not sign an extension this summer, he will be traded and the Hawks will get a big return.
- FourOrr

Maybe, but why would Chicago a team that was 1 goal away from reaching the Cup Finals trade their best player before the season starts? I would rather win a Cup and lose Kane for nothing than trade him for assets (granted that's knowing you are going to win a Cup).

After what happened with Vanek this season I wouldn't expect to see a huge return for Kane unless he agreed to sign an extension before the trade was completed

He's saying Kane will be traded sometime during next season if he doesn't re-sign here.

Also to note, on the FA system now, UFA's going to a new team can only sign 7 years max. Players staying with their team can go 8 years.

Kane is the more dynamic player of the two, when compared to Toews. Toews however wears the "C" for various reasons, including being one of the best two-way players in the game today, a centre to boot, good on draws, consummate teammate and a perennial Selke candidate.

And lastly, I stated this before, with John McDonough as team prez and Kaner being a face of the franchise, the kid isn't going anywhere.

I know what he was saying about being traded during some point next season. Which I still would have a difficult time dealing with if I was a Hawks fan...Kane on the Hawks and they are legitimate cup contenders. The Hawks trading away Kane during the season I wouldn't feel so strongly about. I would much rather have a Cup and lose Kane for nothing but this is coming from a Sabres fan who is desperate for a winning team. Also who saw Briere and Drury leave at the same time. If the Hawks lock up one of Toews or Kane and the other one walks it would not be the end of the world for them especially if they win a cup.

I think the Hawks could get their 2nd line center plus another top 6 forward or top 4 defenseman in the making and slide top 3 prospect TT into Kane's spot on RW. They may not contend for a cup next year but won't be out of the mix. Then watch out when the chemistry kicks in.

hey bro, sorry about crawford
- Flyfreaky

Hey, I've been no huge Crawford supporter. Thought he was great at times versus St. Louis and especially Minnesota. . OK against L.A., But I don't blame a single goal in Game 7 on him. Crawford's fine with the hawk's defense (when it's not sleepwalking) in front of him. Hard also to stop an opponent when linesmen miss two blatant offsides that lead to goals. Just sayin'.

that's why, as i said earlier, i would hold the fort if i were the hawks and don't make a bunch of knee jerk and rash moves cause you lost this series
- Flyfreaky

The Hawks need another center and some size (easy Scooby) upfront. Because of their cap situation, they will have to deal someone to do that.

You do not get a huge return for a player with 1 year left on his deal. If he doesn't sign the Hawks should inform Buffalo to prepare a huge package or they will be looking into possible tampering. That may be the only way they pull in a major return.

McDavid may be your cost for getting Kane. If he does not sign there is NO WAY the Hawks let him walk for nothing.

Bill Wirtz and Bob Pulford would. Rocky and Stan absolutely not.

I agree with your assessment of Crawford, but I just think he needed to be the difference whether game seven or any of the other games the hawks lost

as far as your comment about moving players to upgrade, I think those are good calculated moves, I don't think they need to make knee jerk type trades cause they came up short of the cup

Saad might be the bigger prize here. If the Hawks put all their eggs in the basket of JT/PK, then there will be a tremendous opportunity for some team to steal a good chunk of the Hawks' future. Beyond a qualifying offer to bridge, Hawks have no plan other than the tired old, "will accept less to play with great players who are getting paid." They have NO leeway to sign him long term. 6'2", 210, 21 yrs old, fast, tough, great hands and already producing at the highest level in the playoffs. He is light yrs beyond Bickell and look what he got. The Hawks know what they have in Saad, a very special player still under the radar, but they're hoping to scam him for half of Bickell before he knows better. Is this the rare case where sitting after dec 1 to get UFA status makes sense? At worst he plays for 105% of contract, and then some smart team (cmon Ken Holland) slaps a 5 mill, 6 yr offer sheet on the table and dares the Hawks to meet it. Suck on those eggs Stanbo!

Possible tampering? By the player himself spending well over a million bucks to build a place in Buffalo - his hometown?

Just because he may not walk from Chicago for nothing doesn't mean Buffalo has to trade for him. He could play out the remaining few months of that contract and walk from the team that DOES pay some crazy amount.

Remember before the Blackhawks second Cup the big hot rumor for a couple years was Kane for Miller, because of Kane being a? I don't know if that was ever seriously discussed between the two (if it was, I somewhat doubt Chicago was the team to offer it) but damn that would have been an awful trade for Chicago.

In any case, give me a break with this nonsense. Who gives a (frank) about Kane's off-ice activities, both are going to re-sign for at least $9M per with no drama, I predict. I have seen no credible sources suggest otherwise.

- S Kaspar Rollins

There is only one credible source at this time and that's Kane himself otherwise you are talking about tampering charges if it came from any team. Minnesota has never said once that Vanek is on their radar but come July 1st that will change.
The way I look at it is Chicago is the front runner but come next July 1st if Kane makes it to free agency Pegula will empty the vault for Kane and Buffalo will have all the cap space in the world to make it happen. Again, IF, he is a FA I don't see why he wouldn't come home to finish his career...Buffalo would have two solid drafts under their belt with the possibility of having McDavid or Eichel already drafted when next July 1 comes around. Do you not think if Buffalo were lucky enough to get McDavid that Kane wouldn't want to be on his wing? Then add the fact if the Islanders sux that there can be a chance of having 2 top ten picks in a deep draft besides STL's first. Buffalo will have plenty of ammo to make some trades for talent. I think this will be a quicker rebuild then most think.
Can't cross any bridges till you get to them but as a Buffalo fan I hope that Kane bides his time before re-signing till after next season is over to weigh all his options.

they can easily get 9M from chicago, they won't have to worry about money the rest of their lives, so you do you honestly think for an extra 2M/year they would live in buffalo and play for the worst hockey team? no one in their right mind would do that, buffalo is a joke.
- sensnucksnocups

You make no sense because when Kane was drafted it was by a terrible hockey team (5th worse record in NHL I think) but they drafted well and made good trades and look what happened 2 cups. Buffalo is rebuilding by the same blue print. As for living in Buffalo, I grant you it isn't NY or Chicago but the kid lived here most of his life so for the money he would be making I don't think that coming home would be an issue for him. Lets see, Parise and Suter left for home and Parise left a big market team for a small market team. You may hate Buffalo but you are nobody, I'm not saying it will happen but if he does enter free agency I would say Buffalo has the best shot of landing him.
