I don't know if that was ever seriously discussed between the two (if it was, I somewhat doubt Chicago was the team to offer it) but damn that would have been an awful trade for Chicago.

In any case, give me a break with this nonsense. Who gives a (frank) about Kane's off-ice activities, both are going to re-sign for at least $9M per with no drama, I predict. I have seen no credible sources suggest otherwise.

To be fair they weren't as bad as they are now when they did the Leino deal. I think he would have been immensely overpaid regardless of where he signed. I think you can chalk that deal up to just plain old July 1 lunacy.

Kane obviously desires to be on a winner. People also underestimate the endorsement money he and Toews add by being in Chicago. I think he and Toews could sign matching long term deals in the Getzlaf/Perry area or a little higher. Kane has settled down a lot. Has a long term girlfriend (from Chicago) and is not reported out partying much in 13 and 14. He lived with Stan Bowman's family his first 2 years here and the Hawks stuck with him thru the controversy.

However, I would not discount the possibility he wants an upgrade in his 2C. He is very close friends with both Saad and Shaw so maybe not but, after generating 1 even strength goal with Handzus at center over a 40 game stretch of the regular season who could blame him?

OTOH, Kane is young so is due for a bad decision or 2. Also, Pegula has deep pockets. Kane may also fee eclipsed by Toews. Sabres could have 2 of the top 5 picks next year. I would be surprised if Kane goes to another team, but then again, I was shocked when Federov bailed from the Wings. And I see Kane leaving before Toews ever even contemplates it. As a lot of you have said, if he were offered the right money, with the promises of a solid center like Connor McDavid, maybe even throw the A or C on his chest on a team of youngsters, it could be very tempting.
