Foligno averaged about 55-60 pts a year. This would be the worst draft in any professional sport if there wasn't anyone available at #2 overall who could match that.
- Sabresfan-365

Mike had an 80 point season, and one in the 70s that I remember.

I'm at work now. But you can go through some of the past darts from 20-10 years ago. During that period there was some bad ones

Agreed. Rienhart is not Tavares and Ekblad is not a Doughty/Weber. They aren't that caliber
- sbroads24

Who says?

Weber was the 49th player selected in his draft year. No one knew he was going to turn out to be so good.

It's fun to speculate and debate, but no one - not even the hundreds of scouts and "experts" who are paid "to know" - actually knows.

To definitively say that none of these kids aren't so-and-so calibre isn't really fair.

I was thinking the same thing, exception about Weber.

Bennett is not a grinder. I know it's hard for most Sabres fans to picture but a player can be skilled AND play with grit. We haven't seen it here in Buffalo...um, ever. Maybe Mike Foligno?
- GilPerreault11

I like when Murray says Reinhart is always the smartest player on the ice . Does not say that about Bennett . I have a center with a nonstop motor in Girgensons . And two wingers in the system that have that in Fashing and Compher . Reinhart is the type of player we have not had in a while . I am not in love with him as you are with Bennett but I want to try something different . They all can't be Ted Nolan type players. Want some brains out there too . I just don't like the idea of Ekbald especially since he is on the same level as Reinhart and Bennett.

96 was horrible. 94 was pretty sad as well.

The 3 top point getters in the first round of 1996 were Sabres . Dumont, Zubrus and Briere .

I say. That's my opinion of them. None of them are as talented or as good right now as Tavares was at that age, or as good as Doughty was at his age. Sure, some 2nd round defensemen will probably end up great. Let's draft him then

Just took a look....wow. I really have nothing else to say

Thing is though, scouting and player development has come a long way since 96.

These days as long as you've done your homework and the player development is right, you can usually get a pretty good player drafting in the top 3. Sure the top 3 mentioned this year aren't amongst the elite of past years but I think they'll all have successful NHL careers.
