I have zero emotional attachment to Robin Regehr, but I have no problem seeing him getting his name on the Cup either. However, I absolutely love this Kings team. I said it last night that they remind me a lot of both the 2006 and 2007 Sabres team. They just won't die. The biggest difference, of course, is that the Kings team won a championship already, and very well may win another. I have a feeling that Chicago and LA could become like Woods and Mickelson when it came to the Masters (pre Nordgren golf club of course).

It is amazing how they are a team that in recent history has had trouble scoring, yet is scoring goals left and right just to survive. I can't remember the last time I have seen a team change identities mid-playoffs and succeed

The 1999 Sabres team actually scored an inordinate amount of goals in the playoffs compared to their regular season output as well, I believe. They had a powerplay goal in something like 15 straight games or something like that.

Also, you could see the transition in LA. They started activating their defensemen a lot more, which coincides with the goal scoring increase.

He has certainly identified weaknesses and addressed them.

Edit: here is a detailed breakdown of that chart. http://www.sbnation.com/n...se-stanley-cup-final-2014

Speaking of that, sort of, I saw your blog stating Pittsburgh's possible interest in Mike Richards. Do you really think he gets bought out, or would the Penguins really trade for him at that price tag?

The only situation they could have interest is after a buyout and even then other teams will go above what would make sense for their cap situation.

I think there is a real chance of a buyout.

I can't imagine a team like EDM not taking on that contract to add a type of player they desperately need. Although I assume Richards has a NTC of some sort

Really? I feel like he could still be a viable #2 option for a lot of teams.

I'd be surprised if LA couldn't find a trade partner with cap space. Sure they'd take a bit of salary back short term, but he's still a good player. Then again maybe he's just this years vinny, good hockey player but nobody wants 6 years of him at 5.75?

I would think it's the term that scares people away more than the cash.

But he's 29 though, I bet he could probably play out most if not all of his current contract before he becomes too old and slow for the game.

Isles, Oilers and Preds could probably make a decent offer for him, certainly enough to consider trading him rather than just buying him out.
