What happened to b schenn? And you need to have a 23 man roster.
- FlyersSteve118

You do not have to have a 23 man roster.

Even if we keep Vinny we can ice a good team. You could pick up a guy like Mason Raymond for 2 mill, sign Schenn for 2 mill, sign hall for 600k demote Rosehill(I would imagine a guy like him has a 2 way contract) and still got 2.5 mill for a 3rd Dman and backup goalie
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

The can certainly waive and demote Rosehill, but I doubt they will. Other then a possible paper move at the beginning of the season. Rosehill has a one way contract, but that has nothing to do with waivers.

Didn't they waive Rosehill last year and nobody picked him up?

Yes, so they could be cap compliant, and keep Pronger on the roster, to maximize LTIR cap space. They then recalled both Rosehill and Hall, after placing Pronger on LTIR, on opening day.

They're going to have to do something like that most likely this year as well.

If they allow it, I'd be putting any goalie I'd be thinking of drafting through the mental wringer... get a feel for their breaking points and cognitive limits. I would prioritize the mental stuff way higher than size, athletic ability, track-record, etc.

A lot of these kids can seem focused, even-keeled and unflappable until they really hit their first taste of adversity.

are you just talking about what you want to do to henrik?

i'd settle for seeing a game in which he doesnt have 5 shotblockers in front of him at any given time.

We could even give Kimmo 4 million and just call up McGinn and Lauridsen on day 1 after we LTIR Pronger. I'm also guessing for Benoit's salary, who could be a guy like Tom Gilbert or Mike Weaver. Just a cheap bottom pairing defensemen.

Grossman traded for picks.

A player such as B Schenn could be used in a trade to help bridge the gap between the Flyers and the top teams. And making a move to make the team better, as long as it's not for an older player, is not hasty.
- MJL

Possibly.

But the biggest difference I see between these teams and the Flyers is organizational depth. The root of the flyers problems begins with their poor track record in the draft and poor handling of young players/player development. Bad free agent contracts are just a symptom.

I really don't have the desire to trade B Schenn + more pieces that we need not part with for an upgrade. B Schenn is a nice young player. Keep him, don't touch him.

Let's hope Hexy can turn this franchise in a new direction.

I'm not so sure someone would take Grossman straight up for picks. Possibly. Maybe a team like Florida would? They could use a dman like Grossman and supposedly their owner wants to spend money if it means making the team better.

B Schenn is a nice player, but he's not an untouchable. If the right move for a defenseman presents itself, and it costs them B Schenn. That's a move they have to make. The franchise is headed, and has been headed in the right direction. It just needs a few of the right moves.

Niskanen is about to be overpaid by a solid 2, maybe 3 million dollars.

I'm just as big a stars fan as I am a Flyers fan, been watching him forever. He's good, he's not 6 million dollars good.

He would get smoked if he signed here for even 5 mill I think. I think 5.5 is the absolute most I'd give him on a UFA deal, and that's an over payment to me

- mochoson

In fairness to Niskanen, he was still a young defenseman in his learning curve during his Dallas years. Like many defenseman, his second organization reaped the benefits while the first one only got to experience the struggles.

With that said, I still see some of the same mistakes he made with the Stars on a regular basis. I consider him a good defenseman nowadays but not worth $6M. He's not a bonafide all-star type of defenseman on a less talented team.

I can think of at least one game where that didn't happen...
