still cant believe they traded him?

I'm not one of those people.

I just want to see the Kings win, and Williams scores at like a 6.4 point per game clip in game sevens.

I would move any player in the right deal. I think Simmonds is alright at 5v5. He's a good board player, but not great in his own end.

He spent much of the season with VL. I think he would reap the benefits of playing with guys who compliment his game a little better.

He's a GREAT pp player though. It may not look like he does a lot, but his net front play is outstanding.

He's also one of the few guys we have signed at a very reasonable number.

- PhillySportsGuy

Without question.

Simmonds doesn't stand in front of the net with his finger up his butt on the power play, he even looks to set up a cross creases to a pinching Voracek at times. He doesn't just play in the crease, he plays around the net on the power play.

I don't agree that Vincent Lecavalier ever really held back Simmonds though.

Hes downright scary in his own end when the other team gets the cycle going. I like his game for the most part. But if I'm Berube I have him working on that part of the game, the positioning and all that exclusively

Anyone should be available, if the return is good enough. It's not a matter of wanting Voracek, Simmonds or Brayden Schenn traded. It's looking at assets that can get the Flyers good returns and make them a better team.

The key is avoiding making mistakes in terms of projecting what a player will be (such as the Sharp trade) or just simply not getting enough value in a trade. Despite Carter's production in these playoffs, and Richards' overall play, I still would make both of those trades today.

The Flyers need to be patient with their youngsters, but can't ignore a deal that would fill a greater need.

Yeah. I thought he got better throughout the season, but he does run around in his own end a bit. The entire line of VL-Schenn-Simmonds was just a train wreck in their own end. I held my breath when they were together in the defensive zone.

Agreed, I'd be open to moving any of our forwards, except Giroux, in the right deal. It's defining the right deal that is the tricky part.

Do you think that the flyers brass isn't in negotiations with the B Schenn camp because they're waiting to see if anyone would sign him to an offer sheet? With the numbers that are speculated, what kind of a return would that yield?

Flyers certainly could've gotten more for a top prospect a 1,2, 3 for a guy that played 14 games and did nothing. I hated the trade when it happened and it was an awful trade.
- jstross

I hated it, too. But there were other factors in play.

First and foremost, Adam Oates was leading the NHL in assists and PP points at the time of that trade. They didn't trade for a broken down, wreck of a player. Oates was having an incredible season.

Two, the night before the TDL, the Flyers played in Tampa. Both Jeremy Roenick and Keith Primeau went down with knee injuries and the Flyers had no way to get solid answers on either before the deadline.

But yes, Oates had a very limited impact and the Flyers wasted potentially good assets on him.

I could understand moving Simmonds more than Schenn. I get the feeling Schenn hasn't tapped into his potential yet. Simmonds is pretty much at his peak right now. I think Simmonds would bring back more too.

I'm not looking to trade either. I like both of those guys. Just spitballing.

He's definitely got issues at ES, but I'd like to see him with Giroux at 5on5 and slide Voracek with B. Schenn. I think that could give the Flyers two really solid lines, and allow Read to stay with Couturier and keep the third line strong and have an offensive threat

It all depends on the return. Simmonds most likely has higher value right now, but the deal would have to wow me. Rumor is that Florida is willing to move 1st overall for help at forward. I'd be willing to move Simmonds and the 17th for that pick, but I doubt Florida would go for it.

Doubtful. Schenn's not a very appealing OS target. He's shown promise in flashes, but he's also been very inconsistent. He's also really struggled with his two way game.

Guys like Kesler, who showed limited offense, but good defense, are a safer bet, because at least he can be used as a shutdown guy. Same with a guy like Ryan O'Reilly, who had the offense and defense when he got the OS from the Flames.
