If Pierre is hired at least you guys can figure out who the real fans are and who the bandwagon hoppers are.

I've never understood this line of thinking. If the quality of play, facilities, ownership, management, and direction suck, why would anyone spend their money on it? Just so you can say "I'm the best fan"???? Senseless. Would you continue eating at your favorite restaurant if it suddenly started making you sick?

I hope to god they hire him so I don't have to hear his pathetic voice doing games! He's always up Cindy's ass now, can you imagine if he's the GM.

If they hire Pierre I'm going to need a new team for the next 3 years until he is fired.
- Genev21

Will be longer than that. He'll be there for 2-3 yrs but in that time he will make them a lotto pick team again for years....

Selling off Letang at his lowest value doesn't seem reasonable to me.
- Ryan_Wilson

I would not mind a trade for him. His cost on the cap is very high for a team with two highly paid superstars and our needs are many. But yeah, good return though.

I agree. Every team has bandwagon fans, the Pens just happened to draft the next face of the NHL and it got a lot of sports fans attention. Combine that with 2 trips to the finals, a cup and successful regular seasons and your arena is going to fill up. I for one growing up in a little town in western P.A. that is all stillers and bucko fans have seen some bandwagon fans become actual hockey fans. That can pretty much all be contributed to Crosby.

Then you won't have to hear him suck Claudia's Richard on the air. He does that frequently.

He said in an interview on XM shortly after She to was fired that he would never take the Penguins GM job. Apparently he and Shero are best friends that goes back 20+ years and both were in each other's wedding parties.

In the interview he admitted he and Mario were close but would never want the job. He aluded to the fact that he was not a fan of Penguins' ownership decisions and that by taking the job he would be betraying his friend.

That might actually be a good thing, get Crosby someone to play with and some protection.

If Pierre McGuire gets the position, that will be a slap in the face of Jason Botterill, Tom Fitzgerald and just about any GM or AGM that had to earn their way to that position.

Why? Did Shanny earn his position? Or Trevor Linden? Or countless others?

I heard McGuire on the radio after Shero was fired. He was so distraught, ripping the pens ownership, saying there was stuff people didn't know about that situation, and it wasn't good.

Doesn't sound like the next gm to me.

Please hire him! I don't know how he would ever get anything accomplished while his lips are permanently stuck on Crosbys....ass

That would be the worst move for the Pens. We need a cerebral, low key, knowledgable, experienced GM who has recruiting, valuating talent and a keen mind to do deals under pressure as at deadline dates etc. Pierre may have the talent recruiting and knowledge part down pat, but he has no experience in the many other aspects of the job. David Moorhouse is a joke, and Burkle is right behind him

Pretty much describes him perfectly. If he wants to get off camera he should go be a head of scouting somewhere. I have no doubt at the NHL level he'd hand out ridiculous contracts with reckless abandon.

Agree but Presidents like Linden, Shanny, Neely, etc., are figureheads. They usually hire good hockey people. Sakic/Roy is a bit different but you can't argue with their success.

McGuire is not GM material. I'm sure he'd be a good scout, advisor but not a decision maker.

Oh (frank) I definitely agree I dont know why anyone would want him as their GM....just was making the point that many guys get hired without much for qualifications.

You are right, way too often these positions go to the best B-Ser and not the most qualified.

Indeed. I agree with others here that if he is being considered, it's not for the GM job. Maybe Asst GM to Botterill or a consultant...

I cannot understand why most people think Pierre would be a bad GM based on his work on TV, ego, personality, etc. Shero was the opposite apparently.... Artuculate, quiet, calculated.... Whatever else... And look what happened over the last 5 years. The reality is none of us has a clue who a good fit would be... And I would have no problem if Pierre got a shot to put to use his knowledge, passion and motivation to help get the team another cup. If he lacks some skill, then good leaders surround themselves with the right help.

Except they are. All series the kings have been talking about shutting down Kane and they were doing it until the last 2 games. Kane is just too nice.

Is the Pens ownership deliberately trying to alienate the fan base? Possibly hiring this assclown who is a legend in his own mind with no relevant experience in the last 20 years. AND, not firing a coach who led the team to some of the most disappointing post seasons in memory. Ridiculous!
