When you start feeling bad about our defense (and I know it's not great), you really should watch Derek Engelland for a full game.

Then remember that DB kept starting him over Despres.

It's not easily doable if they want to maximize Pronger's LTIR. The cap is likely to 1-2M lower then 71.1M. They can't even maximize Pronger if it's at 71.1M with that roster.
- MJL

I still think a similar roster is easily do-able. You are guessing what the cap will be just like I'm guessing what the FA's I put in will get in terms of money.

I would like similar moves to be done: a true defensive 4th line center that is great at faceoffs, a speedy top 9 winger, and better skating ability in the bottom pairing. All with Laughton in the AHL.

I don't think he has NHL talent as a scoring line forward either. Which is why I think he should try and remake his game into more of a checking line/4th line forward type.
- MJL

Which I would think he could do. Especially since the reason Murray was hired to run the Phantoms was to be a teacher and develop players. Imagine the cap savings if you could ice a 4th line of Laughton, McGinn and say Alderson. just an example but you save money and if they can all be responsible defensivley and chip in a goal here and there you can upgade other roster spots.

Raffl-Laughton-Alderson would make me a bit happier... a bit wet behind the ears as a group, but much improved over the poop we've been sending out there in past years.

Timmo will come back to the flyers on a tryout basis and sign for the exact amount of prongers LTIR salary.....he will sign day 1 of the season.... It will work, just like that!

I'm not guessing. Even if it's 71.1M, the Flyers cannot do that roster, while maximizing Pronger's LTIR. It is impossible. That's what I'm getting at.

That doesn't help with the roster he proposed. Although that is a good idea.

I'd be ok with that too. I think Taylor Leier could eventually be a solid role player. Has great skating and kills penalties and still has some offensive game to pop in a few.

Which is why I said a similar roster could still be possible.

I understand it can't be done regardless. You said the cap is likely to be 1-2 mill under 71.1, which while a separate point is still very much a guess as of this writing.

I personally don't want Kimmo back. I think the money we'd give him for 1 more year could be better used elsewhere.

I'd rather have him back at ~$4m for one year than sign another FA dman to a multi-year deal.

This picture confuses me. Didn't the Hawks win the Cup in Boston? Looks like the background is Chicago in this picture.

Do they all turtle when a real tough guy wants to fight them, and then find the smallest guy they can and start a fight with him?
- jmatchett383

I think his younger brother plays hockey and was a mid round draft pick a few years ago. No idea if he is a fighter or not.

Not following here. How can it still be possible if it's understood it can't be done regardless?

Here is the deal, the Flyers have to be at, or under the Upper Limit with Pronger and his cap hit counting against the Cap, on the first day of the Season, before they get the exemption. How can they do that with the roster you propose? Add the 4.9M to your roster, and how does that happen?
Regardless of if the Upper limit is 71.1M or lower.
