For sure. But it's as close as it can get. If the goalies were getting beat 80% of the time somehow then I'd have an issue with it. But I think the scoring % is less than 25%, maybe even less than 15%. I can live with that.

And I love all the coaches like Tortorella who say they hate it, yet stand on the bench watching anxiously and celebrating if they win. That is so franking hypocritical to me. Just hand in your lineup card and go to the dressing room. Or at least just stand there stone faced and don't celebrate if you win it.

Same for the players who complain about it yet lean over the bench watching curiously. Eff off. If the NHLPA doesn't like it then they should just shoot every puck into the corner and skate off the ice until the league drops it. Truth is they actually like it. They've been doing it on roadways since they were 7 years old.

my league here does them and they count as a win or a loss. no loser point. that's absurd to me. i hate them. hate them. hate them. that said i didn't lose in a single shootout for either of my teams all season and i celebrate when i win them. it's how i say (frank) you to the shootout.

i hate them in the nhl. i'd rather just have a tie. since they're going to keep it, they really need to change the point system, but they probably won't do that either.

It's important to distinguish between dreams and fantasies. Fantasies never have to die.

There's a blog somewhere on the interwebs written on this topic about 5 years ago by some ass clown Flyers fan.

i dont think it would end up being an even 8 8 split if we just did an even scheduled for all the teams in the league. teams like NJ and NY would have a more difficult time creeping into the playoffs if they were forced to play more western teams, and more western teams would get into the playoffs. i still am a big believer that from top to bottom the west is a better conference.
- stayinthefnnet

ah, i got it now. well, they could do it top 8 from each side, and then seed 1-16 regardless of conference. i also wouldn't mind an uneven drawing. it bugs me that teams with fewer points in once conference can get in over those with more from the other. i don't know if there's a perfect fair solution to be found.

The guys who have no fantasies and whose dreams of nightly nookie have been snatched from their unsuspecting heads are left with a lifetime of foot rubs, washing dinner dishes and cleaning toilets to look forward to.

I wrote a nice blog on the points system 4 years or so ago too. It's very, very simple, but the NHL loves the false numbers and they way it artificially makes the standings look close.

3 points for regulation or OT win.
2 points for SO win
1 point for SO loss.

OT is just an extension of regulation time. Do away with the old school thinking of a tie game. THERE ARE NO MORE TIE GAMES. Every game is worth 3 points. Not some games 2 points and some 3.

Well, there are always those guys who are simply amazing in the scoring zone and get away without having to do all stuff. Guys like Patrick Kane.

I hope Patrick Kane sends the Kings home

Sure there's tie games. The ones that go to a shootout are ties. They give a cheap extra point to a team for winning a skills competition and not a hockey game.

Hopefully the NBA will start using games of H-O-R-S-E to settle their games.

Sharp and Hossa better contribute something on Sunday too. Toews and Kane have done their part.
