Well said and I couldn't agree more.

I'm a fan of all 4 Philly sports teams and there have been FAR, FAR worse owners in this town than Ed Snider. I cringe when people complain about him, because time is running short with him and frankly, who is to say that the person that comes after him will be better?

- johndewar

if that happens and the team is sold, people will be wishing for snider back.

Have to guard against becoming too small and lacking in physical play. It would be great to have players that not only can give what Hartnell does, and also adds some speed. I don't see Hartnell as an issue, and I think he's a player they need. Lecavalier brings a lot of questions into play, as to whether he is a fit going forward. Needs to play center with the right players around him.

I understand the Hartnell thing but if they upgrade the wing position for Giroux and Voracek where does that leave Hartnell. If Vinny is moved he could play with Schenn and Simmonds on the 2nd line. I just don't think he fits on the 3rd and 4rth lines. I like Hartnell just want him to be more consistant and for as much as we kill rinaldo for penalties Hartnell takes sme very untimley oes as ell.

1. Hartnell will not waive his NMC
2. How would you replace Hartnell's production?
3. How would you replace his friendship with Giroux and vibe in the locker room?
4. Hartnell will not waive his NMC.

- jmatchett383

1. You have no clue if he would waive or not.
2. You can replace his production by upgrading the wing.
3. Yes he is a friend with Giroux but this is also a professional team. You can't worry about feelings when trying to upgrade a team to get a cup. Giroux is makinga lot of money and knows this is a business.
4. Again you have no clue.

Hartnell for me has become very inconsistent. Not just from a scoring aspect, but from a board battle winning aspect as well. In the playoffs, that first goal aside, over and over again he was either arriving late for a puck battle, getting there in time but being beaten easily, skating right past the puck and falling, or winning the battle then making an errant pass to no one in particular. It was maddening to watch. He was the place where offensive forays went to die a horrible death.

Per 1/4, what incentive does he have to waive? He's loved in the locker room, he loves the city, has made it is new home. Not sure he's eager to up and leave.

So then he might not waive, rather than will not waive.

If his minutes got cut, no PP time, just the fact he gets approached to waive it. Guys don't just stay in a area for spite. If the Flyers come to him an say we need to try and move you to get some cap space and your roll is going to be reduced I am sure he would think about waiving it. But we have no clue what makes players tick. As much as we like think we know because they will say the right things to the public they are all about their own product and that is themself.

Okay, he's unlikely to waive.

And you have a surefire trade that will undoubtedly make the Flyers better by trading him, keeping in mind that (much like Gagne) he has full control over where he'd go?

One per day, with exceptions. Pens thread only. Restrictions may apply, not available in all states.

There's no restrictions on hockey input, nitpicking, and general tomfoolery, though. So yeah, I don't how how likely Hartnell is to waive, if he were asked. He's a team guy, maybe he'd be accepting when his time has decidedly come.

Bad penalties are a legitimate criticism of Hartnell. And as one of the veterans, he needs to lead by example in cutting those down.

I think in the last year or two of his deal, he'd be more likely if he feels he could be more productive on another team since he'll need to gear up for (likely) his last contract. But at this point, he probably has very little, if any, incentive to do so.

Isn't there a streak where the Flyers have been eliminated by a team who has gone on to (or won) the Finals going back to the Hawks? (not counting last season, of course).

At the same time, I don't expect on old dog to change his spots. Hartnell's been a top PIM collector through his tenure.

He does. Without a doubt.

I've also heard Claude Giroux doesn't backcheck like an elite defensive player, which makes him a terrible on-ice leader.

All players have their warts. We just see ours much more clearly because we see them every game.

How green's the grass over there?

It looks like road to SCF lies through Philadelphia. For the last 5 seasons Flyers have been eliminated by either a cup winner or a finalist.

I am tired of them "always being a bridesmaid never a bride".

I was just thinking...the team that trade him won a Cup. The team that wanted him and didn't get him won a Cup. The team that got him hasn't won a Cup.

Not saying it's the sole reason, just kinda pisses me off.

Giroux also can put up 90pts a season. i can take warts on the right frog. I also feel Giroux is in his prime. I don't see Hartnell getting better and feel we will start to see a decline

No my job to find that trade. That is why they pay scouts and Hextall. But I am sure there are teams that would want him and could use skill set. I mean look at Clarkson in TO. Teams will still think they can get more out of him then we can.
