Both of those stadiums (Monteal and Toronto) are awful baseball stadiums. I've been to both.

Surprising they have an ice rink there.

I am too. It's a beautiful facility, part of a large community center. Pools, weights etc. way nicer than the poopholes I'm used to playing back home.

Compared to what you've got down in the U.S., I'd believe it.

Gotcha. I played roller at a pretty high level (MLRH, had some NHL-drafted guys in it) and then tried ice in a men's league and just couldn't translate. I'm sure taking 2 1/2 years off didn't help. I stepped into a C-level men's league and was pretty awful. No puck skills, not strong on my skates. I know some people made the transition, I couldn't.
- jmatchett383

The a here has some former college and juniors players. It's pretty good hockey. Roller and ice are so different. I've known guys that can do both, but not many.

Mock guess for the draft.

Who seems like the typical Flyers first round choice for the 17th spot? My guess is a forward forsure. We're definitely weak at forwards in prospects. he doesn't necessarily have to be a giant but if he is tall it doesn't necessarily mean they have to be physical. Simon Gagne, Justin Williams, Jeff Carter, Mike Richards, Steve Downie, Claude Giroux, Luca Sbisa, Sean Couturier, Scott Laughton and Samuel Morin. I would go for a winger myself.

Also being in Philly and know the Flyers history for making a splash at the draft, so you think the Flyers push hard for a splash. Pronger, JvR for Schenn, Streit, Bryzgalov, Timonen and Hartnell, Carter and Richards were all nearing draft deals. Or do you feel Hextall will be less flashy? Keep in mind Hextall was on the other end of trading for Mike Richards.

- SuperSchennBros

With Hextall at the helm, I'd expect the priorities/criteria to shift a bit... think you'll see less lusting after Bobby Clarke "character" guys who do everything well and a migration toward more of a Lombardi-style, which seems to be going after guys who do one particular thing exceptionally, but may have flaws in key areas of concern like work-ethic/conditioning/mobility/etc.

So instead of guys like McCann, you may see them take risks on somebody like Ho-Sang, DeAngelo, Nylander, etc. I don't think they'll be as shy about taking Russians either (Barbashev).

I don't think they'll make a splash. I think they try to bring in more picks it they can, but I think they stay at #17 for the 1st-round. I definitely don't see them trading their pick(s) for immediate help.

To be honest, the Flyers have a better track record in the first round than almost every other team.

I would like to see them adjust their post 1st round style. Go for more skilled guys instead of guys who are more likely to crack the bottom 6, but have very little upside.

More of a focus on defenseman and goalies in the middle rounds would help as well.

Yeah, me too.

The Rangers winning last night was nauseating. Far, far worse than the Pens winning in my book.

Fixed.

I think that approach serves them well in not-missing (and turning up some real gems)... it does mean they sometimes pass on some guys w/ higher upsides who turned out to be great players.

I definitely hope Hexy turns the scouts loose in 2nd-7th... no more playing it safe, going after 4th-line guys in the 3rd-round please.

Thats more what I want to see. Don't be afraid to take a defenseman because he's only 5'10.

i have a major issue with people who get their jobs based virtually entirely on how they look.

its one of my main issues with society.

i mean i guess its not technically their fault. but i usually have little respect for them.
