It's not about being a +/-. VL was a complete liability and had to be sheltered all over the ice.
I would take Ovechkin for free in the hopes that he could re-establish himself. I believe he's lost interest and needs a change of scenery. I wouldn't give up much for him though. He makes a poopload of money.
Whats the point of having a goal scorer if he's going to be a net negative on your team? - PhillySportsGuy
The point is the expectation that if put in the right spot, and in the right position, and without an injured back. He would have a better year and be a better player then he was overall last year. |

I think what this team needs is a couple years of consistency, no more quick fixes. Giroux, Shenn and Courturier are a young, talented top three group of centers, each bringing something different. Put players that play to their strengths on the wings and keep them there. I think their are at least ten teams that could use a player like Vinny, especially if Philly retains a bit of Salary. Twenty goals in an 'off' year, Stanley cup winner and a former Captain? Come on. Won't get much back but they can't keep a guy making that much on the fourth line. And you can't complain about B.Schenn if you don't give him the opportunity to be successful. Coots and Schenn need more PP time as well.
Keep drafting Dmen and rebuild the blueline from within, no more trades for fifth or Sixth D men, bring up some Phantoms and let them play. If a talented winger falls to 17 like Fabbri then take him but I've looked at some footage and I don't know how any scout could recommend taking Larkin or Milano over D prospects like Honka, De-Angelo and Mckeown, or even Ho-Sang who is a wizard with the puck. If supposed 'attitude problems cause players like Ho-Sang and De-Angelo to drop then snatch them up, I have full confidence in the Flyers leadership core to straighten them out. |

I could never be a GM.
I get too attached to these guys that do anything for the team to win.
For me Simmonds is a perfect Flyer, even with the holes in his game. - Marc D
I don't think anyone who posts in here should ever be a GM, short of maybe hammarby, ob, and MOAT. |

I go back and forth on what I think about Simmonds, but I'd probably not do that deal. - eayost
simmonds is awesome. and one of the best deals in the league. i dont think its crazy either way to take it or leave it.
i know with brayden schenn it would likely be a no questions asked pull the trigger. but simmonds, definitely a tougher loss. |

I know what you mean. I feel the same way. Billy Beane spends very little time with the team because it makes it easier to part with players. |

I agree fully except for the DeAngelo part. I'd take him in the second if he's there, but his lack of defense and attitude are risky for a 1st. |

My first line would still be Gagne - Brind'Amour - Mikael Renberg age/decline be damned. I wouldn't have the heart to force them out. |

The same can be said for ANY player. If the player avoids injury and you surround him with players who compliment his skills, he will maximize his potential. It's just too much to do for one player who isn't even that good. It's much easier to move him than look for all the pieces to make him all he can be.

and to me, all of those accommodations necessary, risks, ifs, and cap investment make him a negative asset. |

If you put Scuderi on the ice with Letang, put him out with a forward group consisting of 3 Patrice Bergeron clones, allow him to use a harpoon and samurai sword, he'll be just fine. |
