I don't understand where people like you think because he didn't work here other teams don't see him as an asset. The guy still score 20 goals. Didn't play on the top PP like hartnell. PLayed 4th line minutes sometimes. 20 goals is nothing to sneeze at and a team like Nashville who only had 4 and one was weber might see the offense as something needed over his shortcomings.

I don't really care about his goal output. He was a complete liability at all times. I don't want someone who is going to be on the ice for way more goals against than he scores. Even if he scores 50 goals.

in 2 years, if you had to pick one scenario to be more likely, for him to be on the IR for the majority of the season, or still be scoring 20 goals?

a budget (ish) team like nashville cant afford to have dead weight like that.

- stayinthefnnet

Since they are a budget team you keep money to facilitate the trade. Also you need to bring people in the arena since NHL franchises need the gate money. So they need to win too and make the payoffs. Vinny can help that. They have Colin Wilson and Mike Fisher as centers. Fisher is more of a third line cener so vinny slots right into the 2nd line.

You're right...we need to wait until he scores the only 2 goals in a Game 7 SCF win, THEN we sign him and he lights you up in the postseason.

id be fine with that tradeoff if it meant another cup run.

probably his lowest public point, directly opposite of when he called dramaccio an bumhole during a press conference.

That was pretty amusing.

Your full of it. So you wouldn't take Ovechkin on Girouxs wing because he was a minus player?

i would speak to the whole concept of needing to retain money as at least somewhat indicating the presence of a negative asset, but i dont want to upset you anymore.

You think your pens will be able to move Letang or Fluery without keeping some money. Letang could have another stroke anytime and makes a lot of money and is not really good in his own zone and Fluery has shown to be inconsistant in the playoffs.

Mike Fisher is the most famous guy on that team in Nashville -- and it has nothing to do w/ hockey.

You think people down there sitting on the fence about buying tickets know who Vincent Lecavalier is? They're probably more eager to get a glimpse of Carrie's handsome, devout husband.

It's not about being a +/-. VL was a complete liability and had to be sheltered all over the ice.

I would take Ovechkin for free in the hopes that he could re-establish himself. I believe he's lost interest and needs a change of scenery. I wouldn't give up much for him though. He makes a poopload of money.

Whats the point of having a goal scorer if he's going to be a net negative on your team?

Its not aboutbeing famous. Wins bring people to the rink. Look at the phillies. They were having sllout after sellout when there were winning. Now it is half empty. Winswill bring people out.

if raffl could finish, he would be awesome. have to love everything else the guy brings. same with brian gibbons. guy routinely got a short handed breakaway on each PP, but had literally no clue what to do with it.

gotta hook them up with some sort of hands/sniping training

Fleury and Letang are both moveable without having to retain salary. I would take Letang right now.

see. now, this really is a shame.

ill humor this initially. letang? i truly believe should they so choose, they could move letang without keeping a red cent. might not get a huge haul. but most certainly.

fleury. no. i dont believe that.

scuderi, i most certainly dont believe that. id move a 4th rounder with him just to be rid of him. because he is a, oh yeah, a negative asset.

now. aside from the fact i have absolutely no ownership stake in the team whatsoever, literally 0 players on the pens have one scintilla of relevance when discussing and evaluating VL. if youd like to just agree to disagree thats fine. or change the subject, thats fine too.

but changing the subject, as a foundation of your argument, is not good at fostering credibility.

If Laughton is ready to play in the NHL next year I see no reason why starting as a 4th line center and maybe some PK time would hurt. The first year is a tough transition anyway. If be can play 12-15 minutes a game in that role that is not a wasted year to me. He can always move up later if warranted.
- Marc D

i wasn't suggesting his being a 4th liner is a bad thing or would hurt him...just that i iddn't see room for him elsewhere. i'm curious to see what he brings to the table, and i hope he's ready.

Actually I've been to a couple games in Nashville, they like Carolina, have a hell of a fan base and are very knowledgeable and passionate about their hockey.

ovechkin was minus 45 or something. But i take him in a heartbeat. We could have used some of those 45 goals in games we could't score. Players have roles. his is to score. Knowing that his line mates have to maybe pick up the d a little bit more then normal. But i know the Flyers could have used a sniper like him

I don't think it will be that easy. Teams know their situation. I think some will have to be retained.

The fan base down there seems pretty indifferent. I don't see much passion from them. Blasted Poile for matching that Weber offer sheet.

Is Poile blind in one eye now? Thought I read that somewhere.
