I wonder who is in and who is out of the line up tonight. It should be interesting. I think Q's got to sit Bollig and Versteeg. - jhawk159
If those two sit, I'd guess the most likely fill-ins would be Regin and Nordstrom. |

I can not see how versteeg plays...regin in.
bolig only sits if Q decides to put brookbank at forward....he has no trust in morin esp in a elimination game...nordie is a light weight vs the kings |

Hard truth #1 - The League wants LA versus NY. Like the goodfellas say, "Nothing personal, its business." Oh yeah, they could package that with a triple crown Belmont featuring a Cali horse running at a NY track. Thats serious business baby. Get used to a steady dose of those blatant trips and fwd interferences and constant stick slashes, cause they aint getting called.
Hard truth #2 - very entertaining OT last night (that 8min stretch w/out a whistle, whew), but both teams in the east will beat either of these teams. Top six looked good on both sides (it took Hawks 5 games to find a 2d line? Really!!?). But the eastern teams can neutralize that and have far better bottom 6. Goal play out east has been superior to the unconfident scuffling from Quick/Crow. Plus get your backups ready - running the goalie is SOP in east.
Hard truth #3 - quote from Kane after game 5: "Personally I thought - meta_puck_luck[Saad] was the best player on the ice." This on a four assist night? Translation: "am i really helping this kid put the nail in the coffiin of my bro Sharp? Am I punching my own ticket to Buffalo?"
1) Da faq you talking 'bout?
2) Saad's really a left wing. The player who could affect Kane's tenure is Teuvo Teravainen, who is either going to be a C or a RW in the NHL. |

Q plays young players who also play defense. Like Marcus Kruger. Like Joakim Nordstrom.
Just not young players who don't play at both ends of the ice. Like Morin. Like Pirri. - John Jaeckel
Exactly. He played Saad almost right away. Shaw, too. And Krugman and Bolland before that. And Leddy, Hammer and Bickell, too. At goalie he's gone with Niemi over a vet, and Crawford over another vet.
There are many debatable things about hockey, but it is just factually wrong to say that Q doesn't like young players. As you stated, you can say he doesn't like young players who don't play defense well. |

My guess is if Pirri had proven he could play competently in all 3 zones he would have earned the second center position saving us from all the bellowing about Zus all season. No one wanted Zus as a 2C, but no one on the Hawks was able to step up and earn that role. Hopefully someone can step up next season and prove they are capable of playing that position. |

Let's leave "corksucker" out of the equation. "Bastage" is probably pushing it a little too.
Also, if the rest are used in a playful manner that isn't a personal attack or isn't out to offend anyone, I'm not going to say anything. At least for the time being, or until I hear different from the higher-ups.
Use the rest of them at your own risk. |

There is no doubt about that. The team needs a 2C - even the "dolt" Q knows that - and Q would have loved to have Pirri, or anyone else, take that job. That Pirri didn't tells us more about him than about Q. Same with Morin, Hayes, etc... |

Read rule #3 in the code of conduct. That should give you a good idea of what is or isn't acceptable.

The stupid thing is few were willing to look at Pirri's glaringly bad defensive play and only focused on Pirri's moderately successful offensive numbers as proof he deserved the position. Had Pirri been handed the position those same Zus bashers would have been calling for Zus to replace Pirri. Now Pirri can show off his game in Florida where I am sure he will have some reasonably good offensive numbers, but a player you'll always hear mentioned in trade rumours. |

And McNeil and alleged expert (Zuwaski or whatever his name is) were barking the dumb-ass meme that Q doesn't play young players. This, to them, is the only possible reason that Morin hasn't played. - mohel
Haven't listened to Danny in a long while (live out of state), but Zuwaski actually is pretty sharp from what I recall.
It's hard to argue with history - Q doesn't often sport a line-up full of youngsters. But, those clamoring for the flashy rookies often lose sight of the fact that veterans with a perceived lower ceiling are often more responsible in all three zones, and less likely to make a gaffe that loses a game. This is more important than ever this time of year.
That being said, I can't say that I'm not frustrated by Q's personnel decisions from time to time. He definitely has is favorites, and certain players get a longer leash than others - see Kris Versteeg. I think that he's a firm believer in keeping the inexperienced guys on a very short leash - sometimes to a fault. Guys are never going to get experience if they're stapled to the bench after one questionable decision.
That being said, game 6 of the WCF's isn't the right time to grant these young guys experience. But, if a player (see Bollig) is only going to play 5 minutes, I can't argue with those calling for another option.
I'd like to see Morin in there tonight on the fourth, but I'll understand why that won't happen.

Ek says E. Kane is on the way in the off season, so we got that going for us....which is nice. Jumbo Joe is on the block according to him as well, so our 2C issue would be solved... |

How the combination of several facts leads to a conclusion is sometimes funny...
1. Q has played several (bordering on many) young players, often big minutes at important times.
2. The Hawks have a need for a 2C.
3. Pirri plays center, and gets a shot.
4. Q stops playing him at center, and Pirri is traded.
Conclusion some make about this set of facts? Q doesn't play kids. How about "Pirri" doesn't play the game the way the Hawks want it played? Never!!
Substitute Morin or Hayes for Pirri - same deal. |

The bolded is just not true, Fredo. There's a long list of untested, young players who have played for the Hawks over the past several years and stuck. Shaw, Saad, Krugman, Bickell, Leddy, Niemi, Crawford, Bolland, Smith, Bollig. |
