Well, if That is true, that means during almost Every draft, shouldnt the Canadiens have picked the best player left from Quebec when it's our turn to select, and then ask yourselves why we Didnt select Brule the year we took Price?? Based on Your logic, that shoulda happened..
- jillann

Brule is an ALberta boy, not from Quebec.

Because Timmins thought Price was the better choice?

I feel very confident in guessing that Timmins had 0 say in whether Leblanc was taken or not

- ehabs9

So he had veto power on Price, but none on Leblank.

Yur losing.

Leblanc was a french Montreal born and raised prospect ranked around where Montreal was drafting, and the draft was in Montreal. There was no way the team was going to miss an opportunity like that, and I really don't think anything Timmins said to the contrary would have made a difference. And I doubt he made a case for not drafting him, he was supposed to go around then anyways.

It was a matter of appeasing the masses in Montreal with a set of given circumstances, not a yearly "french first no matter what" mentality. There are times pleasing the fan base comes over hockey moves. They aren't dumb enough to do it all of the time otherwise they wouldn't be even remotely competitive, but at times it's a factor in decisions.

He was taken where he was ranked. The French thing was a bonus from a team perspective. His injury really derailed his development.

For the record, drafting with 20/20 hindsight is awesome. Jillian has truly mastered the craft.

Exactly. You can throw out all the times Timmins has drafted someone that turned out well, and list a ton of players that went before them that were busts.

The chances of even a 1st round prospect turning into a full-time NHL player are low. You can choose to focus on the ones that don't or be happy with the ones that do. Sure if a team hasn't had anyone good develop in years maybe it's time to rethink things, but Timmins has had quite a few turn out better than expected if you ask me, so I'm fine with the jobs he's doing.

it certainly wasnt a secret that he was elite, but ive only seen him a few times. (been good every time mind you)
bu this series was a total eye opener.
has to at least be considered in the same category as the dudes that are always thrown out as the obvious best in the game. chara, keith, weber etc.

i suppose theyve been doing it for much longer and that has to count for something,.but nonetheless

also, subban is electric and a total game changer, but until he does some furthur work on his defensive game, i dont think he can quite be considered as dominant all around as those guys

I don't think he'll ever be as dominant all-around as those guys, but I'm fine with that. The ability he has to change a game is what makes him special, different kind of player.

No not "just", but given the circumstances of the draft I would think that byproduct of selecting him was a tipping point in his favour over other prospects in the same range. As has been said, it's where he was ranked to go anyways.

Habs were built to beat the Bruins, which they did, so you can look at this season as a complete and total success.

What a game by the kid in net.. He was excellent the whole series for the most part and Therrien seemed to make the right move. Congratulations on a very nice playoff run.. I still loved every minute of the Habs beating Boston.. Best part of playoffs so far for me... At least you won't have to deal with that hump Vanek next year... Very succesful year
