so the coach sends messages for next year int he conference final?
hmm.... he's not a very good coach. - dt99999
I have no clue why he did or didn't play Vanek with DD and Pax again. I do think it's possible that a coach of a relatively young team, who lost their starting goalie and most important player, could decide to send a message through a guy who he knows won't be back on the team next year and is showing very little effort even in the conf final.
I also don't think it would make him a bad coach. The fact that Vanek is supposedly healthy make his performance that much worse. |

well this is kind of my point. i have to assume that the players, after everything that they put into this season from September through May, don't give a poop about that stuff in the conference finals. and if bumping Vanek up would have rubbed some players the wrong way, then those are the wrong players. winning should come first. |

If it was a message, and I have no clue why he didn't move Vanek up, I don't think that was the message. I think the message was play hard and you'll be rewarded. |

No, it's just speculation. We have no clue why he wasn't played with them again. It is possible that his effort level was a factor. |

Well if he is bro-hugging it out, then someone needs to tell him that that bro-hug has crossed the line into a man-cuddle. |

Reading between the lines, I don't expect Vanek back. Bergevin said it depends on the term and the salary. We all know how important it is for Vanek. |

Bergevin was also satisfied this season with the development of young blueliners Nathan Beaulieu, Jarred Tinordi and Greg Pateryn, the first two playing short stints with the NHL club.
"I think the day they become everyday players with the Canadiens will be sooner rather than later," he said. "Do I want them to play in NHL next season - yes. "I want some internal competition at camp (next season)."

Wait. Let me see if I understand. Vanek is a player looking for a big and long contract. MB is a GM who signs players to such contracts, and says this player could be back, but it depends on the salary and length of the contract? |

Don't know why he said that. Doesn't matter if you open the vault, if Vanek doesn't want to be here, he won't be. |
