I'm quite sure he's still got decent value.
Time will tell.
But whatevr.. .if not Plek... I'd still like to see a deal to get Bieksa - WaterBoy

ya i would love Bieksa to replace Markov. but i think he'd be expensive to acquire. Bergevin needs to decide if this run was a fluke or if it was the initial opening of Montreal's Price/Subban-anchored window. so does he make improvements looking short term or long term? the one thing that i think no one wants to see, is this team come back intact next year, minus Vanek. i think spending our available $$ on re-signing Markov and Gionta would be a huge mistake. |

He does have value. Replace Handzus by Plekanec on the Hawks and they'd probably be in the final right now. - Jean_Perron
right because Plekanec came up so big against NY. |

He needs to stay on the same path and build a yearly contender, not lose assets by overpaying in trades. That is done through the draft and development. |

Markov and Gio are weird cases.
Markov can still play good minutes... maybe not top minutes and he would need a better partner to remain efficient.
Gio ? at the right price he could still help... but it kinda makes sense to swap him for a bigger shutdown guy. Clearly if he stays his role will be on the 3rd line. |

i know what you mean, for sure. but he gave up 2 valuable pieces in the Vanek deal. and anyway, i'm not so much talking about high profile trades. more like UFA signings and trading for veterans--not front line vets but mid tier guys. |

It has to be both. Otherwise, you end up like the Canucks. |

problem with our defence is we've got Gorges and Emelin eating $8 million. that's too much for what amounts to 2 defencemen who are ideally suited to 3rd pairing minutes. so then you sign Markov, he's going to have to play big minutes. if you can trade one of Emelin/Gorges, sure, sign Markov. |

i think for it to be both, you need a strong, strong stable of prospects constantly challenging for jobs or available to trade. Montreal doesn't have that. |

Well then maybe the Habs shouldn't have gone on such a useless playoff run, costing them valuable draft positions.
idiots.
nice way to build for the future. |

Gorges idealy.
Emelin makes mistakes but he's physical at least. |
