As a fellow concussion sufferer, I feel for Bourdon. I had a serious concussion at the start of 2013 and I still deal with mild symptoms-and I'm not trying to play a rough sport like professional hockey.

As much as I feel for Bourdon and understand his desire to achieve his dream, the Flyers simply can not utilize a contract slot on him at this juncture. An AHL only deal, similar to the one that Eric Wellwood received is the best route for the Flyers.

Bourdon was an encouraging prospect, who could have been a solid 3rd pair guy. Given his history and best case scenario, I just can't see risking a slot and LTIR slot on him. They can find a similar prospect without too much trouble or effort.

While that sounds callous, I really do feel for Bourdon. Not knowing the full medical report, I would be really concerned about his potential for future injury. As was mentioned by others, Bourdon also faces quality of life issues in the future, as concussions can linger for years.

Keith Primeau took 8-10 years to finally declare himself symptom free. Pronger is still dealing with mild symptoms 2 or 3 years after his concussion. Marc Savard still battles his PCS almost 5 years after he was injured. Not to mention the numerous NFL players that ended up with serious issues or committed suicide after dealing with the long term effects of concussive injuries. That has to be a concern for Bourdon at this point, given the amount of time and number of injuries he has dealt with already.

Damn, that's crazy. Glad to hear you're feeling better now but a shame you still have to live with symptoms, whether they're mild or not.

I hope MAB plays it safe and remembers how important quality of life is. I know he's a hockey player and lives to be out there on that ice, but I just hope he doesn't push himself too hard.

It was mainly due to dizziness. I work in elevated areas and on ladders. Periodic dizzy spells could lead to a dead me.

nothing that happens to any philly athlete should ever be called a 'freak accident'.....i would be interested to see if any city's teams compare to the number of star or promising players who had careers ended by injury, and/or untimely deaths......i can't believe any would be close to what we've had here

I had one in hockey and was ok about 3 weeks later.....back then I thought I must of had a cracked cranium or something....I remember the headaches and the nausea....I sure as hell wouldn't have gone up a ladder!!!!

I met MAB at the SkateZone once(he was out front waiting for a cab ). I recall him not being that big of a guy as far a D men go. I would definitely consider hanging them up at this point. He's been away so long now that even without the risk of another injury I'd have to imagine that his development as a player is now severely stunted.

Glad to see Philly and MAB handling this situation with extreme caution. Very happy that he is able to fly fish with his time off, I too am an avid fly fisherman and nothing is better for the soul. If he is not able to safely comeback to professional hockey maybe he could open up a guiding service for fly fishing.

I would give him the AHL contract. Let him try and resume his career on a 1 year or 2 year contract. If he plays a full season with no issues, give him a shot at the NHL again.

And other teams get no hit by nobodys....so...I mean can't you just give Beckett his credit that's due? Rather than troll Philadelphia sports fans?

Beckett definitely deserves his props, but did you see the Phillies at-bats especially in those last 3 innings? After 6 innings you knew he had the no-hitter locked down even if he started throwing 75 mph fastballs.

Like I said last week. Phillies have entered one of their patented dark ages. The fun has just begun
