I see couts progression curve going in a positive direction. I personally think Lavy messed up his development. This year he seemed to assert himself more offensively
- PhillaBully

He should be 3C starting this upcoming year I think. He didn't stick on our atrocious 2nd PP unit. Hopefully we are deeper next year and don't have to be so matchup oriented having to put him out on Dzone draws all the time.

I agree ...

Carcillo
Marchand
Lucic
Cooke
Neal

in no particular order

Hard to argue with that list.

I don't mind filling your weak areas with AHL vets. For example, if Laughton opens with the Flyers, why not go out and get the best minor league center you can to center your first line? I'd like to see our kids develop on a solid to good team and not a stinker.

You do need a few vets to teach young kids good habits, etc.

However, those old Phantoms teams were typically heavy with AHL vets. More so than you would expect out of a minor league team. They have to find a balance between winning to fill seats (in those minor league arenas) and developing their prospects.

Exactly. I don't think his growth was stunted. He just wasn't given many opportunities to score. If the Flyers can roll 4 lines, it will allow Couts more offensive zone time against weaker opponents.

You need some vets to help with the kids too. I know working in Hershey we went out and signed Denis Bonvie because we had so many young players because they switched from Colorado to Washington Affiliate. I mean Bonvie was nothing special, AHL enforcer, but he helped get the kids transitioning o the pro game.

There are younger vets and I was just using it as an example. I mean i am ok with Kris Newbury. He is a solid AHL player

You generally need NHL contract to lure those kinds of guys... and the Flyers have had too many slots invested in UFAs/overagers over the years to make up for the lost picks from the Pronger trade, and all the 2nds/3rds they trade away.

Good news is, a lot of slots potentially opening up this summer, especially if guys like Brown, Flanagan, Hostetter, Eddy, Gus, Bourdon, etc don't get qualified.

Yup, he would work
One or 2 vet forwards and 1 vet dman would be a good plan.

Bill, do you really think that, even if the Flyers were to offer an ELC to Wilcox, he would take it prior to finishing at Cornell?

Contract slots are a very valuable commodity. You only get 50. Rinaldo and Rosehill tying up two of them is a disgrace. Might as well sign a couple of bums off the corner of Pattison Avenue.
