Actually, Toronto is where I think he ends up.

If they are patient and build through the draft, they are absolutely moving in the right direction and I have no problem taking a step backwards next year if it allows them to contend soon after. Plus the 2015 draft, by all reports, is supposed to be incredibly talented and deep, so if you have to take a step back 14-15 is the year to do it.

Considering that both Ghost and Morin will likely only be in their first full seasons in 15-16, I don't see them being a cup contender then. However by 16-17 and for the next few years, they have a very good chance to be one of the best teams in the league if they stay patient and draft well.

80+ year old meddling owner + 40 year Cup drought + passionate fanbase = no such thing as patience.

He has a hard enough time keeping up with cycle/crash-happy linemates like Wayne Simmonds and Brayden Schenn... Kessel and JvR play a rush-game at the speed of light... the play would go from end to end, and he'd be caught in an endless loop of button hooks in the neutral zone.

Snider may be meddling but he's not stupid. You don't have the success he's had in life if you are an idiot. I think he's smart enough to see that the "sign whoever you can, we have to win the cup THIS YEAR" model didn't work out very well and I think he's willing to give Hextall a few years to build a championship team.

Success doesn't necessarily mean someone isn't stupid. See Sterling, Donald.

We shall see if Hextall has complete control or not. Hextall didn't hire Berube, very rarely in sports does a new GM come aboard and not bring in a new coach with him.

I think Berube has earned another year and I believe Hextall will give that to him. I don't think Hextall will hesitate to pull the plug though.

What if Hextall brought back John Stevens

I agree. much rather have an owner who cares and does whatever possible to win and who will pay to have a mistake go away(Bryz). He built the wells fargo center without asking for city money. I mean look. The oilers have young talent but how far has that got them? how long is there rebuild. Look at the islanders and the terrible barn they play in and are moving to Brooklyn because of it. . I give Snider credit froo doing whatever he can to make his fans happy.

Normally I would agree, but the circumstances here are quite different. Holmgren wasn't fired after a dismal season as most GM's are. Berube had a very good first season as head coach.

Well, when it went end-to-end, he'd be fine when they're on offense, as he'd be hanging out at the red line. It's getting back that would be the issue.

Hextall was there when prmoted Berube and I think the plan to move Homer to President was coming once Hextall came here. I am sure hextall had imput in the hiring.

And on Snider. How do you know he is meddling. yes he wanted a goalie after the debacle in the playoffs but so did every fan. Bryz had the numbers in phoenix and anaheim. Who knew he was a head case.

Fair point. And Hextall may have had some input on hiring Berube. I think Berube did a great job turning the season around, I wasn't thrilled with some of his lineup decisions, etc... But you can say that about any coach. I believe Berube has earned a second season. I'm sold on him as a motivator, not sold yet on the X & O's aspect.

Sorry, meant end-to-end-to-end-to-end-etc, as the Leafs games are wont to do.

Even Milbury could have coached MTL to the ECF with the way Price was playing -- let's just say Linus doesn't have his blanket anymore.

Assist and a minor. Abdelkader got 5 and a game for charging when the game was 1-1. 10 seconds later it was 2-1. 1:15 later it was 3-1. Made it 4-1 on another PP.

Kinda makes you wonder how one of Pittsburgh or Boston didn't make it. I could see one of them getting upset, but with the sheer talent on them, kinda crazy that they both lost.

Yes. Carle and Lavi as well. And maybe Stevens and Carter.
