I think after these playoffs Vanek can be had for a can of pop and a bowl of Kraft Dinner.

Never seen a guys value plummet so fast in two weeks.

I appreciate the Kind Words Dee and the link. What a Polarizing topic and no real way of knowing what comes from Vanek whoever signs him this summer! He could mess around put 30+ Goals on the board make someone look like a rocket scientist or get a GM fired

This the man Garth was going to pay more than JT?????

We dodged a bullet. Garth did NOT do his "Due frickin Diligence on this player by a mile and we lost a 1st pick in the process. To anyone who says Vanek was a good trade you're sooooooo wrong. We took an expensive problem off Buffalo's hands, for an in-season rental and really got nothing for it.

Shows ONCE AGAIN, Garth cannot even make trades that benefit the team, forget about attracting decent FA's.
HOW does this moron STILL have a job?

Paging Jaroslav Halak.......why no contract yet?
Because he too will test the waters of free agency. Way to go Garthy!!!

paging captain hindsight...gotta love how you blasted garth when he didnt get vanek to sign and now you blast him that he made the offer...you are so consistent in hatred for garth but sometimes your arguments overlap.

as for halak, why dont you wait till he walks before you start female doging. they could be waiting to hear about the floor/ceiling before making an offer, correct?

What good reason is there for overpayment? Correction: Gross overpaymen. For a guy who has no heart and walked from the best offer because he wants to play for a contending organization, which with present ownership, management & coaching, we are not. Nobody wants to be the second choice. I'd rather have Nino back. He played with a lot of passion. Vanek has none.

it might have to do that when he was with the islanders, that line was tops in the league???

Why would that be a reason to reacquire him??

We don't want a line that is good.

Why would anyone want that???

true...i think all players should be evaluated based on a 8-10 game block determined by some of the most negative thinking people ive ever come in contact with.

Vanek is a high point per game player who achieved this without a better player (aka: a JT). This over analysis and judgmental silliness is just overwrought fans.... That is reminiscent when the peanut gallery (including many prospect pundits) over analyzed Tavares before/after draft.

He is the best point per game player in this coming UFA period.

And he is light years better than Matt Moulson (back to 50pts without JT)

oh good lord, when will the moulson lovers get it?!?! if he hasnt already, the guy is going to fade into mediocrity...at best!!

like i said...vanek with JT and KO were the best line in the league; thats a fact. if teams are souring on him bc of a bad stretch of games and therefore willing to writeoff the rest of his career, great, thatll only help garths chances of reeling him in

I don't love either of them to be honest.. but if Moulson is the best option available then throw him a short term contract.

If Vanak is willing to sign a contract with us and he is the best option available sign away who cares what it costs our owner.

Here are my hopes for the off season as far as JT's wing goes.

1) Sign a better player then Vanak
if there is none
2) Sign Vanak
if he is unavailable
3) Sign Heatley short term
if he is unavailable
4) Sign Moulson short term
if he is unavailable
5) go with someone in the system and pray.

BLasted Garth because he gave away too much and came away empty handed. We hadn't seen Vanek in the playoffs since WE played them 5 years ago, so I didn't realize he was a no show in the big games. Regular season, yes he played well but because of our crap coach, our team missed playoffs. I didn't blast the offer, please read carefully and try and follow instead of just overreacting to ANYTHING I say. Sorry, I live in a results-orientated reality. I don't understand how Garth can still have a job. I don't hate the man, I hate the job he's doing and the BS he's slinging to us.

He should know by now no one wants to play for him & Crappy but just for you, I'll wait till Halak signs elsewhere and then you can go eat a d!ck and tell us how Halak wasn't the right fit for this team.

Vanek is taking a lot of crap but you have to look at that idiot coach Therien as well. He picks on star players and Vanek is one of them. I agree Vanek is steaky but how do we know he is not injured?? I hope he gets hot again and throws it right back in the faces of all these jumping on the band wagon critics.

He should come back to the Isles, part of best line in hockey with JT and KO for a couple months. Don't have to worry about his playoff performance because the Isles are not a playoff team, yet, lol. There is still a chance Vanek returns to NYI. To me that would be great news.
