That's not correct. It's if you are 20 by the time the season starts. It says "That" year, not"the previous year".

Proof. Connor Brown playing AHL next year. 20 yrs old. Born Jan 94.

- burn

He turned twenty at the start of the season before dec 31st. So he is elgible.

I found an example from a few years ago to further confuse you guys, lol.

There is an agreement in place between the NHL and the CHL (Canadian Hockey League, the overarching organization beneath which stand the OHL, the WHL, and the QMJHL) which exists primarily to protect the CHL. The rule is as follows:

Players drafted and playing for CHL teams are ineligible to play in the professional minor leagues (AHL, ECHL) until they are 20 years old (by December 31st of that year) or have completed four years in major juniors.

A perfect example of this is Jared Knight, this year. Knight won't turn 20 until January 16, 2012. He's already completed two years in juniors, playing his third in London this season. If things continue along their course, and Knight does not make the NHL Bruins for the 2011-2012 season, he'll have to play that year in London as well, and will be eligible for AHL play in 2012-2013.

was he 20 by Jan 1 2014?

if not, he cannot play in the AHL.

Ken Holland disagrees.

It says "if you don't turn 20 by Dec 31 OF THAT year".

brown shouldnt be eligible either.

now, many junior teams let it slide and dont cause a fuss because they are only allowed 3 over-agers..

but the technical rule is you have to be 20 the previous calender year.

believe me burn, i know this very well.

Nope, he was told to learn and improve gap control and Spott told the Leafs he has done that, funny thing is, Carlyle defence system is the worst in the league in gap control, so what Holzer has improved on won't really matter if it is with the Leafs because they don't do it.

I'd imagine he knows the rules better than us, no?? Probably been over the same situation a couple times?? You think he just brought it on on TV and was confused about timing, or has he put lots of thought into it??

matt Finn turned 20 in Feb.... going to the MArlies next year.

Brown turned 20 JAn 14. So he wasn't 20 by the Dec31 deadline.

Matt Finn has played four full years of Junior so the age does not matter.

So if Spott can teach Holzer Gap control, but Randy can't teach it...

What does that say about the decision to keep RC ??

Of course because he wasnt' 20 until Jan of 2012 (same situation as Brown is in, 2 years later).

We will find out because I think the St. Michael's Buzzers counts as year of junior, so that makes 4 years, it is confusing to say the least, it will all be cleared up by the start of the next season, I hope, lol.

Anyone planning on travelling to Columbus to get drunk and ornery at a Blue Jackets game?

You may want to rethink your plans.

I'm reading the CBA quote you posted and it says "until they are 20 yrs old (by DEC31 of THAT yr).

BAsed on that, how I'm reading and preciecing it and what Holland said about Mantha I believe that the DEC31 of THAT year mean the year in which they are being deemed to be eligible/ineligible. So for that purpose they have to be 20 by DEC31 of THAT year (IE 2014-2015). Finn, Brown, Bibeau, Mantha, Rychel all fit that criteria. All of them seem to be listed on their respective AHL rosters for next year.

Domi is a 95 birthday and listed on the Knights next year because he wont be 20 until after Dec31.Same with Gauthier. Ryan Pouluk is a 94 birthday listed on the AHL for next year. Poirer is a 94 birthday listed on the AHL roster for Adirondack.
