So if we get Stastny, does that mean we get to avoid the 2 elephants in the room again with our lack of grit on forward and weak defence?

I love avoiding obvious problems

It's part of the DNA of the Toronto Maple Leafs

All top teams who have a plan in place from management to the ice level.
Simply put they draft players and develop them for the style of game they play. If they fit they stay, if not then they move them. Detroit let Fiddler, Filppula both walk instead of signing them for their asking prices. Leafs don't do this currently.

They have no actual vision and just make moves and hoping it all fits.

u mean Hudler

hockeyfuture has the leafs in the bottom 3 when it comes to prospects. i know their not the be all end all on prospect rankings but thats not god for a team that consistently misses the playoffs.

and finally, Shanahan will fix all this

Does he add more grit to our bottom 6 and improve our defence? No

The problem with this team isn't the top 6, goal scoring isn't the issue. It's keeping the puck out of our net.

Just another smoke screen to avoid the real issues. No grit to win battles along the boards, no depth on defence.

Exactly my point.

If the top 6 were rated on a scale 1 - 100 at let's use a random number of 80 and a new center like Stastny would move that 80 to 85 is it that much of an upgrade?

Whereas if our Defense on the same scale were rated at 50 and a new Dman would bring it to say 70 - 75, would that be of significant value?

Which upgrade would fans really prefer?

Exactly.

I would also include NJ into my above list except they are currently toiling at mediocre right now after losing some key players to free agency and retirement.

So you don't see when you watch the Marlies play and the patience our management team has with the kids and let them develop? Leaf team of the past traded away the kids and draft choices. We now have a management team in place who despite fans that YELL, keep their patience and develop the players properly. It takes time to develop players but pays off in the end.

Sign statsny, move Kadri for Defense and grit.

Grit is cheap. I wouldn't get too worked up over grit.

We have 23.3M and have assets like bozak, gunner who have value that can be traded in deals/package to either shed or retain a better asset in the process. We can do both if we really wanted to

Might be. They do like giving it to undrafted overagers though to help give them a chance at a career.

Yes. But he is 34 almost 35. I just think they might value him as a center in his prime.

its because the leafs lack blue chip prospects, no high end talent.
I am not overly worried about that at the moment as long as they keep the picks and prospects and keep developing.. unlike before.
