How do you explain the switch from 2 man forecheck to 1 man forecheck and back to 2?
- DrRecchi

So they get 100 points with a more passive style? Not sure I buy that.

Anyone else remember the stress of Christmas shopping and how the team looked completely lost? Playing possum doesn't strike me as a strategy as you indicated. The staff adjusted to their opponent and they have been successful at it.

They were fairly accurate with the Jets pilot landing on the Leaf considering half their team for the past four years were Maple Leaf rejects and they're about to bring in Optimus Reim.

The thing is, the habs were a possession black hole during the entire season (23rd in the league I believe) and got into a playoff spot with timely scoring and hot goaltending.

But if you look at the advanced stats from the playoffs, they are right back at where they were during the 2012-2013 season.

As the advanced stats people say.

Mark Messier...some consider the greatest leader ever. A complete bumhole on the ice.

Theo Fleury. Hardest worker most games, complete bumhole, apparently his days in Chicago he was a dressing room disaster.

with certain players i think it's easy to see. like Toews. i'm pretty comfortable saying he's a good leader even though we're not besties. other guys, yeah it's hard to tell.

except for Phaneuf. terrible leader. what kind of leader drives a Bentley? might as well show up to the rink in panties.

The east is fairly weak.

They ran hot and cold for streches, which is perfectly normal for any team.

What we easily forget is that the habs are not a bad team.

Yes...all long gone.

How are they in any way reflective of this team being "broken"?

Typical leaf fan.

Can't wait for your team to sign Orpik and trade for Stewart.

edit : and sign Pouliot!

This certainly has a lot to do with it but to think that this happened by design is a bit of a stretch imo. The games against Chicago and a few against Detroit to name a few were exciting and very fast paced games. I agree that some adjustments were made and they paid off in spades.

i think the Vanek trade put this team into a real nice equilibrium. if you look at their record and their advanced stats since that trade (reg season and playoffs), they're been very good. this is why i'm still hopeful we can retain him, despite his poopty playoffs. people can point to Price and say it's all him, and fine, you expect nothing less. but Price has a .919/2.35 split in the playoffs. solid number. and he's been money through 2 rounds. but to suggest that he's done it alone is foolish.

Wow, idiot. Leafs are signing Matt Greene for 3.5mil and trading Lupul and a 2nd they don't own for Stastny.

I know that losing Lupul loses an offensive threat that even teams like the Blackhawks don't have, but you need to give to get.

The weak conference certainly worked in the habs favour and it is great that things came together the way the did. Again, I am just not convinced that it was by design or just a case of the best players coming through when needed.

Price was just ok in the Tampa series. As good as he needed to be.

But he STOLE a couple of games in the Bruins series.
