Well it's a double whammy. The Leafs ARE 1000% the center of the hockey universe. Problem with that is that Ballard knew it, Stavros knew & MSLE knows it. That's why none of them never have & never will spend the money to make the Leafs a true champion. Why would they? Leafs are a rich franchise, they have the noteriety. No wonder there will NEVER be motivation to make the Leafs better. Leafs are being run EXACTLY in the same fashion as if Ballard was still in charge.

Ahhhhh your missing the point Burn. Whatever lands us McDavid, I'm all for it. Well except for trading Kessel, JVR, Bernier, Gardner & Reiily, I'm open to trading anybody to get the kid.

Leafs one of highest spending year in and year out. Leafs have largest scouting department. Highest paid executives. LArgest group of executives. Built state of the art practice facility. and on and on......

How is it brutal? You get Gudbranson in a trade, you draft Bennet. If you can sign Orpik, he will replace Dion's minutes. You say goodbye to the inconsistent Kadri & the turn over machine in Dion. PLUS if u rid yourself of Dion's contract, you can re-sign Bolland. Otherwise Bolland will be gone as a UFA.

So who would u rather have? Dion & Kadri OR Gudbranson, Bennet & Bolland? Dunno about u but I go for the latter in a heartbeat.

When was the last time you saw teams deliberately give assets away?? When teams want to tank they trade their assets for picks and prospects....... apparently in leaf land it's OK to trade assets for nothing in return, just for the hope and prayer that they could possibly draft a player a year latter. If you want to get better and build through the draft then trade assets for picks. Gutting the franchise to make them worse only makes them worse. What happens if they do get mcdavid?? They have nothing to help him with because they gave them all away to try to get him.

Gubranson sucks. Oprik sucks. Those 2 guys aren't replacing dion in the least. It makes us worse. IF "orpik is replacing Dion's mins" we're (frank)ed.


an 18 year old #1 center?? I can't think of a better way to ruin a kid than to thrust that sort of pressure on the kid. Hell, players that are considered better than the group of available centers this year (IE mckinnon) weren't even put in as #1 centers. The kid would be ruined.

when there was no cap the Leafs had one of the highest payrolls in hockey despite revenue generating as little as $0.55 USD per revenue dollar. now that there is a cap they spend to the limit on player salaries, and they have state of the art playing and training facilities. they have their own power skating coach and a massive front office. you're confusing poor management and impatience with frugality. money is the one part of the equation the Leafs have right.

Spending money and winning don't always correlate. You have to spend it correctly.... but as you said they don't spend it which is unequivocally not true.
