Hey peeps. I hope David Broll will get a shot with the Leafs in the bottom 6. He's a great energy guy, he will fight too. Could be a guy who grows into that role. |

The leafs need to stop doing what you're saying for them to do. Moving things to move up because one of the top guys is a saviour...8th could bring just as good a prospect in a year or two.
Was Giroux a top 3 pick? Sometimes you need to just stand pat and go with what you've got. - Aaron_85
Yeah, they don't need to make a big splash, just a solid pick. |

I DEARLY wish Tallon would go for that trade. I'd do it in a heartbeat if I was Nonis |

If the Leafs try to move up, then they're again hurting their overall depth. Just stick with 8th. That'll be a nice addition.

I think bringing back Leo Komarov is a great option for the Maple Leafs.
I also have been watching the Marlies a bit...saw them in Chicago last weekend in games one and two and there are several guys deserving of a shot with the big club next year...and that even includes the 31 year old journeyman goaltender Drew MacIntyre, especially if the Leafs trade Reimer. I'd hate to see Reimer go, I have been a big fan of his since he came aboard. But I think for his career, he needs to be moved and that saddens me. So why not give MacIntyre a shot to assume a back up role since Randy Carlyle and Dave Nonis have given every angle of the #1 job to Jonathan Bernier since last summer and casted Reimer aside from the very beginning.
Players like D'Amigo, Smith, Leivo, Abbott and McKegg have all played solid seasons for the Marlies, not just this season, but prior to 2014. They have paid their dues and should be given a shot. Other outside guys like Ryan, Ashton, Devane and Carrick have also been solid, but I see them more as depth forwards for the organization and the Marlies. I have seen Ashton play with the Leafs and was not impressed. No offensive contributions and pretty much no clue of how he needs to play at the NHL level. Seems like he is always unsure if he should be an enforcer type of player or a role player that contributes once in a while. I don't know either and from the games I saw in Chicago, he still doesn't seem to understand what his role is. Perhaps not all his fault either...?
The bottom line is that if the Marlies can win the AHL cup, then those guys have proven themselves worthy of an opportunity on a team that refuses to play hard in all areas on the ice, specifically defensively. Like the Leafs, the Marlies have a ton of speed and skill that was superior to the Wolves and the Admirals up in Milwaukee as well. Toronto needs guys who can not only skate well, but understand that defense is still the most important part of being successful professional hockey team. Right now, I see Jerry D'Amigo and Trevor Smith fitting those needed holes best, but there are a few more options as well as those two.
Toronto needs to hope for a better season from David Clarkson. But more importantly, need to make a big trade, not sure who will or should be involved, but Nonis needs to find a balance to the blue line and pair Phaneuf with someone who actually compliments him best. Pairing Phaneuf with Carl Gunnarsson just weakens the defense even more. Perhaps Phaneuf will be traded but I am not sure how that makes the Leafs a better team either. I think the Leafs can fill the lines with the Marlies players, especially the bottom six and hopefully can count on Clarkson more in 2014-15. Bringing in a better player to pair with the captain, or shoring up the defense by trading Phaneuf and others, and bringing in solid 2nd line centerman is what Nonis needs to do.
Oh, and I forgot about Peter Holland, who I think will fit in very nicely centering the third line with McClement centering the fourth line. - royalgardens
I agree that some of the Marlies deserve a shot especially MacIntyre and Holland. |

Nonis has some decisions to make as some important Marlies are RFA's & they may want one way contracts: Holland, Brennan & D'Amigo. |
