He is definitely hyped. That's what winning the WJC will do for you. Didn't quite work out for Jack Campbell (and really, he didn't even start the Gold Medal game). But so far, he looks like he's it.
- jmatchett383

Jack Campbell is actually doing quite well, just being brought along a little slower, or should I say "properly". He's a very polished player now.

He probably could have been Kari Lehtonens back-up this year, but they decided another year would be best for his development. Their patience is being rewarded, as his numbers have gotten better and better every year.

He would be great with the Sedins, though.

Didnt' they have a dominant ASG not too long ago?

Adding a slower older guy doesn't make two other older slower guys better.

Determining when a player is "ready" is a gamble.

I know, but its better if a player is given too much time in the minors than not enough time.

More impressive than the WJC, he put up a 1.56GAA and .951SV% in the regular WC's against the best available NHL/pro players.

- Tomahawk

Not sure if the Flyers ever looked at drafting him, but they didn't have a pick late in the first round in 2011 because they traded it (and a third) for Versteeg.

What is with so many people posting here trying to get the flyers to rush every single solid prospect we have into the NHL, when we already have a VERY young core?

Its worrisome.

- FlyersSteve118

I don't see it as worrisome. Think of the culture here in the last decade or so. This is how it's been.

It's taken the organization awhile to catch on to the concept of not rushing guys, it's only fair to expect the fans to do the same.

That, "Ohhhh, shiny new toy" rhetoric will die slow, friend!

Sbisa is really the only one who I feel the Flyers really rushed recently. I felt Couts was ready and Schenn started in the AHL. Laughton went back to Juniors twice. Read and Raffl were both ready when they got called up.
- PhillySportsGuy

Richie, Pitkanen, Niinimaa, JvR, Williams, Zubrus and Carter could have all used more development time, IMO.

Hey, good for him. I always hoped he'd do well, but I know that he had major struggles in the OHL.

Again, Hartnell is not slow. And just because he's 32 doesn't mean he's "old".

After some of the trades your team is expected to make, I wouldn't be surprised to see most of your older players gone. You will need SOME vets moving forward. Does that mean Scott Hartnell is going to Vancouver? No.

But to simply say, "he's not coming here" just because you don't think it's a good idea is silly. For all you know when it's all said and done, he could end up being a Canuck and one of the oldest players on your team. If a 32 year old winger is the oldest player on my team, I'm pretty stoked.

Carter scored 20 goals as a rookie (and was useless first 1/4 of the season due to mono), and Richards turned out okay. Remember, they both went through the rigors of an AHL Calder Cup run.

JvR won a spot in camp the same way Coots did; he outplayed the competition. He looked ready, and he was (I believe) 21 or 22. I'll give you the others, though.

Those who wanted to rush Ghost this year are insane.

He most definitely did. I'm just as big a Stars fan as I am a Flyers fan. Actually just got to FINALLY go to a game this year with my father in Dallas. Awesome arena, awesome fans.

Cam Fowler somehow fell that year, and I thought he was FOR SURE who we would grab. When Campbell transitioned to the OHL, it was beyond rough. I wanted to pull my hair out.

JVR got two full seasons in college after being drafted and didn't play in the NHL till he was 20. Carter was also 20 when he first played for the Flyers, and he scored 42 points that season.

But I thought everything was Homer's fault. Personally, I'm still pretty ticked about the McCrimmon trade in 87 and the hiring of Wayne Cashman in 97.

I haven't caught any of the games but what I'm taking from Bill's blog is Schenn had one really good game at center for Canada and then many spoke too soon...again.

I dunno if a year of riding buses up and down the east coast might have rubbed some of the sense of entitlement off of Frick and Frack, maybe improving their lasting power and negating some of the Dry Island-esque BS surrounding them.

In JvR's case, he was pretty much penciled into the lineup all summer. I think the competition for him at camp was like Nodl and Pyorala, lol. Really think he would have hit the ground running with a bit more dev time.

There is a flipside where leaving a player in the minors too long can also hurt his confidence.

Doesn't matter, he turned into Schenn anyways.
