Always good to see some thought out, reasonable post about whether or not a team should look into trading a guy get answered with

"YEAH, LET'S JUST GIVE HIM AWAY!!!!!"

Hartnell is an odd case, because year to year he consistently puts up his 20-25 goal and 50 or so points and plays physical, but in the course of the season he is inconsistent and undisciplined.

If Hartnell is dealt, he could actually have good value. Unlike Lecavalier, who I think will end up being a salary dump, a Hartnell deal would have to be a good hockey deal.

- Jsaquella

That's the point of the "YEAH, LET'S JUST GIVE HIM AWAY!!!!!" post. Some people really do want to just dump him. If you wanna move him, you can probably find 27 suitors who would give you good value.

Raffl is awesome. Every line seems to get better with him on it. Even the top line.

I've only had 1 of those and Carter got traded. It's out of my system I SWEAR! I tend to defend players now...

I just shake my head at the Grossmann hate. I like the guy!

I like the guy, I dislike the one dimensional player he is. He's tough and has grit. But he's slow, well below average with the puck, has average at best hockey sense and bring s almost zero offense at all.

I'd rather be paying a guy like Hjalmarsson $3.5mm than Grossmann

While I'd agree he was an awesome signing who surprised me with his work effort, skating and board work, he can't finish... He needs to work on his shooting to actually put some of those chances in the net... That and I felt he disappeared in the play-offs a bit...

So would everyone. Hjalmarsson would get more than 3.5M on the open market though.

He does have some trouble finishing, but he's so good at everything else. If he was a good shooter, he'd be pushing for top line minutes.

The problem is, as soon as somebody suggests trading a guy-or trading for a guy-it immediately seems to become like that poster is on a vendetta to run a guy out of town or trade the core of the team to get his guy in

Certainly, which is why they need to hang on to draft pick and make smarter decisions when handing out contracts.

I think if you surround him with guys that can finish, that would work also. For whatever reason, Raffl's just good at helping to generate offensive attack time.

I hear you. Grossmann being hated for one bad January is not justified.

I haven't really hated a player since Randy Jones, Kyle Calder and Freddy Myer.

I didn't like Matt Carle's game but I did recognize his perfect fit on this team. Coburn, Meszaros, Carle and Grossmann were all reasonably young when first getting here and maybe in their primes.

I didn't hate Denis Telpeko, Andreas Nodl or Mika Pyorela but I always had concerns about how their games would translate to the NHL. I have the same concerns as Michael Raffl.

I am going to read this link, but I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that this will not be flattering for one Vincent Lecavalier.

If not for Lecavalier, Hartnell would be the one deal I'd like to see them move most.

It's not because of his play, per se, but the length and NMC. Hartnell is what he is. He's going to score you 20-25 goals. he's going to help on the PP. He will provide physicality and hard work most nights.

He's also going to be undisciplined, taking bad penalties and making questionable decisions. He's not going to help much on defense and he's not going to be on the PK.

He does usually end up producing where ever he is used, though. I just don't like the years and stifling movement clause.

- Jsaquella

I'm concerned w/Hartnell going forward as skating becomes more and more emphasized. He clearly doesn't transition well and the battles he does win you along the walls, he often will give puck away w/low percentage play.

You predict correctly... even in those odd times when he's out with 19/28 and 28/93, he manages to drag them down as well. It's absurd.

In my case, my dislike of Grossmann was driven by more than one January. The only Flyers I have ever hated are Billy Tibbetts, Ulf Samuelsson, Randy Holt & Kevin Stevens.

I don't hate Grossmann, I dislike his game. I don't hate Vinny, I hate that he's so limited that he can't shift to wing or adapt his game to fit better on the roster. I don't hate Rinaldo, I just wish he could learn some discipline and not give the refs an easy out when he gets a rep penalty

I'd rather pay Shea Weber $7.5M than pay Grossmann $2M. But that wasn't an option.
