Game 7 is tonight.

I know it's 100% crazy and won't happen, but how would you guys feel about playing Pouliot in Game 7 for Scuderi (keeping in mind Pouliot has never played a professional game (okay, 1 AHL game) and would be playing his 3rd game in 3 nights?

Ryan, I disagree with your Crosby assessment. The slew foot is bad enough, but the antics after the stickwork on Moore bothers me the most. He knew damn-well Moore was coming after him and he kept skating till help could arrive. THEN he crosschecks a prone Ranger in the back!!! It's absurd! If he wanted to get the team going, turn and take the scrap. It's Dominic Moore, a fight he could've won and possibly change the outcome. He takes abuse all the time on the ice but there are ways of going about a counterstrike aside from the pathetic antics from last night. I'm sure his teammates notice it and inwardly aren't happy about it.

What comes around goes around, league set the tone with that.

Sid can be on the wrong end of that every time or he can dish some of it back.

Just play despres. He would bring a nice spark and a much better offensive touch than scuds.

I'm torn on Sid's antics.

On one hand I think he has to rise above it all.

On the other hand, I know that turning the other cheek is extremely difficult. Also, I know what he did at the end of the 2nd period yesterday but he has received far worse during these playoffs and has only 1 penalty drawn to show for it. That's pathetic enforcement of the rules.

For every incident the Crosby-haters point to, they ignore 5 infractions committed against him. But, they do enjoy their animated gifs that show Sid in his worst moments.

It is what it is. The thing I like about game 7 is that the Rags will be on their best behavior for fear of penalty. So, after tomorrow's game, no excuses. Both teams have equal things to lose now.

Scuds still has some value for some teams. He'd likely still be an asset for young teams with a defensive scheme that wants to 1) hit the cap floor and 2) provide veteran leadership on the blue-line if their D-corps is young. He won't get you a lot, but for a UFA signing, it's not like you gave up anything except 1 year's cap space to get him in the first place.
- ScienceJesus

I'd say Andrei Meszaros offered more value coming into this season than Scuderi will going into next. The Flyers tried to give him away. Really, they did. they wanted a 7th for him. They could not give him away. They got lucky with Boston getting hit with an injury to the blueline and being one of the few teams with a guy like him they could move.

What I'm saying is that it's not always a given that you can dump a guy, even if it's to help a team reach the floor (Meszaros had a cap hit of $4M).

I agree with a previous post about the UFA class of 2014 being putrid. If we shake things up this offseason and aquire new players, it will be via trades, not ufa signings . Trade Neal and Letang and Shero will get a massive amount of assets in return....assets that will start & contribute right a way.

Glad someone agrees with me. There are not good options to help. Interested to hear the thoughts of one poster who supposedly looked at the list and thinks there is value. Yet, he remains a mouse. I don't think he has really looked at the list to be honest. If he did, he would know the options suck.

I'm thinking Ales Hemsky would be the top winger that won't cost a fortune?

Edit: Or Vrbata?

Factor in Letangs health and contract and where he stands, I don't think moving him improves the team.
- sammy87

There's still a ton of teams that would take him in a heartbeat and give up significant assets to get him. He's shown that he's back to full-speed in these playoffs & not at any greater significant risk now.

The knocks on him remain what they were a year ago. Sometimes makes poor decisions with the puck and not the most overly physical guy in the world, but can dazzle at times and one of the top offensive d-men in the world while not being a serious liability in his own zone. And can be quite good when paired with the right partner.

Some of them can be coached out of him, and some won't. But either way, he's a major pick-up and he's not any more of a health risk than any other d-man you could get (and likely less so of one because it is now a known issue and monitored regularly)

Hemsky doesn't bring to the table what Pittsburgh needs. Remember, we are trading Neal and should let Jokinen walk according to at least one poster. That means we need three top six forwards. No to Hemsky.

Some of the WHL records are just insane. Ray Ferrero with 108 goals in a 72 game season.

So, who are these great FA pickups, keeping in mind that there is a salary cap, and also keeping in mind that the Penguins are in a win now mode?

I'm just not gonna chalk it up to that! He's the captain and best player in the World and he should act like it. Much better ways of letting the other team know you have a pair than what he did last night.

Edit: I was obviously pretty ticked when I watched the game, and the antics have been gnawing at me ever since. Not only for the embarrassment but now I'll have to watch a bunch of Crosby loving squirts recreate the prone-check.

I don't think they're that comparable. Meszaros has been on a downward slide for a ltitle bit now (though he did take a nose-dive last year), while Scuds is 1 year removed from being a regular on a solid defensive team and has 2 cup rings in the last 5 years and his only real "off year" was this year (while transitioning to a totally different system that is virtually the opposite of the systems he's succeeded in in the past).

I think a GM that recognizes that he's a system-based defenseman and can play in a solid D-first system would be very interested.

You think those are crazy, check these out:

http://www.lhjmq-records....ook/index2.php?lang=en#a1

Notables:

Mike Bossy - 309 goals, 532 points in 263 games; most goals in major junior history.

Guy Lafleur - 233 goals, 379 points in 118 games; 130 goals, 209 points and a Memorial Cup in 1970-71.

Mario Lemieux - 247 goals, 562 points in 200 games; 61-game point streak, 133 goals and 282 points in 1983-84 all set major junior records

I'm under the impression that the QMJHL had no defenders or goalies before the 2004 season.

Not only that, but someone that isn't a shrinking violet in the physicality department might be spectacular. Neal isn't exactly a power forward even with his build and his only real physicality in the last few years has been predominantly cheapshots and few & far between.

I'm ok with Hemsky, I think you must keep Jussi though. There really isn't any way around it.

14-87-Hem/Cammi
19-71-36
9-16-stemp
Vitale-Goc-Megna/Adams/Gibbons

7-58
3-Nisk
Despress/Bortuzzo/England/Prospect

Assuming you can move Neal and Scuds to make it work. Not sure if Ott did anything or not in St Louis, but he might not be bad. Im not necessarly sold on Stemp or Goc depending what the price is.

FASTEST TWO GOALS:

2 secs - Calgary Hitmen at Red Deer, Oct. 3, 1998, against Red Deer Rebels, third period. Pavel Brendl scored at 19:40 and Brad Moran at 19:42. Hitmen won 6-4.

Seriously, how is that even possible? Somebody was slow starting the clock.

I'm just saying, there's about 5 players all-time that I would have tanked for, and he's #2.
