Yeah. I mean, I'm no fan of Crosby. I really am not. But any coach who would bench him in a playoff game? That would be like Glen Sather benching Gretzky after he went goalless in four consecutive games to start the 1988 playoffs.

Gretzky went on to win the Conn Smythe Trophy.

- jmatchett383

So whats worse than benching your superstar? How about him not showing up when his team needs him the most. Pick your poison. I forget what game it was maybe game 3 this series he had 6 shots and did everything he could other than score, he was outstanding, but are you telling me anything other than the pens have made it this far with sid having contributed minimally? If anything thats a compliment to Bylsma because say the pens win game 7 and sid tears it up in the next series , they can confidently say they made it through two tricky rounds of the toughest pro competition without their superstar. Again kudos to DB if that happens. I think he probably gets fired , but i think hes an outstanding coach and he takes the fall for the players like most coaches do. I was a season ticket holder for the preds and would be fascinated with trotz in there, he was never given a decent roster

get rid of Megna and Gibbons on 4th line and put in some real grit and sandpaper and let Jussi walk and sub in either megna or gibbons on 3rd line and i'd be sold.

MAF and Malkin to STL for Oshie, Shattenkirk, and Tarasenko?

I could work with that.

Just what we need, a shootout specialist in Oshie. There is a strange lovefest with him. Pleasing to the eye, but only one 20-goal season to his credit in his career. I don't think that deal would ever be in the cards for either side.

Nothing wrong with Gibbons. He has more grit than most of our current players.

1 20 goal season, another season where he scored 19, another where he scored 18, and 3 where he was on pace to score over 20 had he played all 82 games. He probably gets 20 in the 19 and 18 goal years too if he plays them out. He's a hell of a player and tough as nails. One of the only guys in the league that will skate down the wing with the puck, leave it to lay someone the fck out, pick the puck back up, and then take it to the net and score. Hell of a hockey player.

You got it! I feel there is a great hockey deal to be made which would likely involve drafts picks/current prospects also, however the big names in this trade are the meat and potatoes of course.

MAF will be a cheaper option than Miller which I believe the Blues will have to consider. And obviously bringing in an elite scorer such as Malkin will help tremendously which is a piece IMO the blues have been missing which explains the early playoffs exists.

In summary, the Blues (a team with depth currently) will get a high end scorer and still have lot's of pieces to work with on the second/third lines as organizationally they have many good players. The Penguins benefit by filling out the roster far batter with guys who aren't overpaid paperweights who are useless without number 71 (James Neal) seeing as often times 87 and 71 and 14 need each other to succeed. In other words I believe Oshie and Tarasenko can be plugged anywhere into the top six and take care of business. Plus Shattinkerk on the back end can really stabilize the team.

Please correct me i'm wrong (especially you Blues experts :p )

I made many moves when working with capgeek so included in the St Louis trade I believe I sent Neal packing to the Blues as well. I posted a response to another fellow who commented on my suggestions with a brief explanation as to why I think this would be great both teams. Feel free to take a look!

I probably should have made notes as to which players were involved in the trades.

In response to your comment, I agree some grit would be great. Jussi is obviously a wild card and I feel we should keep or Stempinak for the right price (likely going to fetch similar contracts on the open market). In all, Sutter must be provided with some good wingers and organizational I want Pittsburgh to go back to having the best third line in hockey. With Beau, Jussi and Brandon on the third I believe they can have a major positive effect moving forward. This of course leaves cheaper options such as the speed demand Gibbons who is the heart and sole of this Penguins team currently vs the Rangers to continue proving is worth and getting his foot int he door for a top 9 position later in his career.

All criticism is welcome! Thanks.

Jake Allen is supposedly ticketed to be the starting goalie in STL. The last thing they want to do is pay 5 million for a backup goalie that has anxiety issues in the play-offs. If not Allen starting, resign Elliott and go with a 1A, 1B situation. Together, they are cheaper than Fleury.

STL isn't giving up Shattenkirk, Tarasenko and Oshie for Malkin. They could use a bonafide scorer, but that deal is counterproductive IMO for them.

Completely agree... Rangers have all of the confidence right now, and after being down 3-1 can almost feel like they are playing with house money.

Pens on the other hand feel like a house of cards, where a stiff breeze might blow then over.

Orpik over Scuds, but that's just like choosing the somewhat less fat chick. Either way you're gonna get squished.

The kid has been ruined by this organization. I'm not sure that would be smart at this juncture. I wonder if he asks for a trade in the offseason. He should.

His future with the club is ruined if Dan is back that is certain. He should and will ask for a trade. Instead of developing that kid and coaching him up, we get three more years of scuds. Nice move by management.

Great for Allen! Might he best be served as the backup for the remainder of MAF's contract which is not too much longer now which is still a cheaper option than Miller? I say this because the Blues lately have had a very strong net presence with Halak, Elliot, Miller and occasionally Allen. However with Halak gone and Miller who will command a lot $, perhaps a proven champ in MAF over Elliot could make for a strong goalie tandem. Moreover, a change in scenario may rejuvenate MAF and provide the confidence he might be lacking.

The deal would see the blues netting Neal to go along with 71. It could be counter productive but the Blues would gain a lot from the high end talent Malkin would provide. Shattenkirk is a long shot but the Blues have Pietralangelo and J-Bo (Bouwmeester) with a couple other solid D which is a position I bet the Blues are not overly worried about.

I suggest Tarasenko, granted he is playing well at the NHL level could be be substituted at RW for Neal who is a RW as they also have Jaden Schwartz on the active roster plus the upcoming highly regarded Dmitrij Jaskin and Ty Rattie. Therefore, it's conceivable they trade one of these forwards just like Pittsburgh could trade anyone of the upcoming Defence as each team has plenty to spare at these positions in the prospect pool.

It would be counter productive for the Blues. Do you honestly see the Blues having interest in James Neal with the system they play? I don't. Hitch wouldn't want him. Even you yourself admitted Shattenkirk is a longshot, so why even suggest it? I think we need to envision realistic ideas, not pipe dreams.

Why would a team like STL want MAF, who has a proven failure rate in the play-offs absent two years the Pens made it to the Cup? This makes absolutely ZERO sense. Proven champ? He has one Cup and sense then has been a disaster between the pipes in the play-offs, so ... let's tone down the proven champ comment. He isn't that proven anymore.

Absolutely.

This series has been all about heart. The Rangers are playing for St.Louis right now and this will be tough to beat.
