I dislike them both. I want the Pens to lose this round because it will be another choke job, another disappointing season where it's the Cup or questions of heart and chemistry for such a talented team with arguably 2 of the top 5 players in the world on the roster. That's priceless. And the moaning and groaning from the Pens' fanbase is the cherry on top.

Then I want the Rangers to lose next round, preferably to the Habs. If the Habs don't go any further, I really don't have any rooting interests one way or another. And sadly, the hockey season will be nearly over.

But I am looking forward to going to the draft. I just hope ticket prices are reasonable.

Still no word from Flyers but we have a meeting 5/20 and I'll ask. They said that tix will be available to STHs and will be free but they didn't know at the time how many they were being allotted by the NHL.

I'd happily take Phaneuf...he's not a captain but he is a good defenseman. He faces brutal competition, plays a ton of minutes and is in a horrid situation in Toronto.
- Jsaquella

But what would you give for him?

In a vacuum, Phaneuf would be a good complementary player. I don't think he's the alpha dog on the blue line that everyone wants or thinks he is and I don't think he'll ever live up to that.

In a salary capped league, Phaneuf seems somewhat overpaid.

He's overpaid right now, but in 2 years, he'll probably be making the equivalent of a 2/3 defenseman.

Niskanen is going to get at least $6.5M. Would you rather have Niskanen or Phaneuf?

Right now he is overpaid.
However in 2 or 3 years when top Dmen are getting deals with cap hits north of 9 million or more, he will be right where he should be.

I agree. I just think a little more highly of phaneuf than most. If he went to a team that didn't require him to wear a letter or play against the toughest level of competition in the nhl, he'd look better
- PhillySportsGuy

On this team, he'd be playing against the toughest level of competition, likely paired with Coburn as our top pair. And he'd be taking all of the special team minutes that Kimmo played this past year.

Having him and Hartnell in the same locker room would be quite interesting doncha think?

Well, he can't be any slower than Kimmo at this point.
Actually all kidding aside, I'll take a 29 year old Phaneuf over a 39 year old Timonen.

Well, yes, so would I. Thing is, I don't think either is a solution for this team, but Kimmo's on a year-to-year deal, where as Phaneuf is locked up. I'm just not a fan on his.

Niskanen because he's a FA and Phanuef is going to cost serious assets in a trade.

Goal scored by #19 Scott Hartnell! Assist by #93 Jacob Voracek, along with #3 Dion Phanuef.

DP, nice job!

Yes, but if one of those assets is VL, it helps clear out some space. But the "plus" part of VL+ would hurt.

So, would you rather do Laughton+1st+cap hit for Phaneuf, or keep VL's cap hit for Niskanen and his cap hit?

Streit would be on the top PP.

According to extra skater, he played against the toughest competition in the entire NHL. He'd be seeing tough match ups, but it wouldn't be on the same level. He wouldn't need to be captain either.

I think one of the Leafs problems is their gap control between dmen and forwards. Flyers get into trouble with that as well because they lack speed as a group. It's not on the Leafs level though. Most of those forwards have very little defensive awareness.

What if the Pens deal Letang and sign Niskanen to 7years $6.5M AAV? Would you inquire about Phaneuf?
