apparently it was him who pushed for the team to bring in hextall
- Crimsoninja

And pushed for his promotion to team president, and for Hextall to be named GM. But that doesn't fit the narrative that he was fired.

He probably doesn't need the money now, he probably wouldn't know what to do if he wasn't a GM, President, or doing something else within a franchise
- ob18

Well he's a Hockey lifer who has had a distinguished career in the sport. So he doesn't know much else.

I'm sure he did. I'm looking forward to the Hextall era. I think he's going to do a great job provided he's not interfered with. I think he had a lot to do with building the team in LA. It was time for a change.

I hope you're right, but you never know. Hextall is faced with some challenges. The next few moves that are made, are critical. I like what Hextalls says, but saying it and doing it, are two different things.

Can he stand up to the boss, that's the biggest question for me. Clarke seemed to be able to more than most... Homer didn't do as good of a job keeping the old man from meddling.

Yes it is. I think Hextall has a very high hockey IQ listening to him speak. I'm really confident in him improving this team in the future. Starting this Summer.

As far as Holmgren & Hextall go, it's pretty obvious that it was a McCammon situation.

Back in the early 1980s, the Flyers were very high on Bob McCammon as a rising young hockey mind. He was coach, and they felt he'd be a good GM, when Keith Allen was ready to hang 'em up. But, McCammon got offered a job as GM & Head Coach(believe it was the Whalers, but not sure), so in order to keep McCammon, Snider promoted him to GM & head coach and kicked Allen upstairs.

Pretty similar to Hexy & Homer. Plan was in place, and the heir apparent drew interest from elsewhere, so the succession plan was sped up a bit.

Snider has to sign the checks and get out of the way. That never again comment really put Holmgren in a tough situation.

Moulson - G - Voracek
Hartnell - Schenn - Simmonds
Read - Coots - Raffl
Rinaldo - Halpern - Hall

Streit - Coburn
Schenn - AMac
Grossman - Gus/Timonen

Mason
[Emery]

Problem with this Roster is $$ It is hard to know what each guy will command. I signed Moulson at 5 mill, Schenn at 3.1mill, Halpern at 600k, Hall at 600k I dumped Vinny who I assume would be grabbed for prospect or pick if traded. Gus at 1 mill, Timonen at 2 mill and Emery at 1.65 mill.

With that in mind Pronger is still on the Roster and can't be put on LTIR until the 1st day of the season but we have to be cap compliant before that. I demoted Rosehill but it is still not enough. Flyers could easily just crab a cheaper 7th dman like they did for Gill which would solve our issue along with a cheaper backup goalie. Again these are estimated guesses at best price wise.

At the most, Snider has injected a mentality of trying to win. And Snider also opened the company pocket book to not only allow the GM to make expensive moves, but to also correct moves that didn't work out. So I don't think Snider meddles in specific player moves made. That is all on Holmgren, just as it will be with Hextall.

We'll see. I'm sure when the first inevitable mistake is made, the tone will change.

That's the biggest key. Holmgren was kind of Snider's second choice( remember Colin Campbell!). Hextall knows he can walk out the door & get another gig

I think that it's a pretty good chance that Laughton is on the team next year. I would say a little less for Schenn. And a little more for Timonen.

Moulson has struggled badly to fit in with the Wild, and he's not a fast skater at all. I'd like to inject more speed than he brings

I would really hate for Laughton to be wasted on the fourth line, he's better off in minors actually getting ice time

Mason Raymond was a guy Flyers are also reportedly looking at. He has the speed not so sure of the skill though

He'd probably be best off on an NHL team that actually needs a 3rd line Center and we'd be better off with another D man.
