Montoya is probably the best option overall. He is capable of being a number one in my books but he is satisfied being a career backup it seems. He is a great team player and is actually better than Emery. I think someone will sign him on day one of free agency.

i hear you, man. this is one reason i feel blessed to still be able to play hockey at a high level - it lets met get my frustrations out - it's something I can control. I had a great game last night, and it carried over today to pick up hockey. they just couldn't score on me. it's such a great feeling and helps me escape the annoying things going on in my life, like the flyers not being the playoffs.

i agree with 2R here. need a guy that can step in and play long stretches. we don't have that in the organization at this time.

Nobody is saying that analytics don't have value, or shouldn't be a tool that should be used by teams. It's nothing new. Analytics have been used by teams in one form or another for decades. Roger Neilson used analytic's in the 70's. It's not using them that is the issue, it's the misuse of them. And being used out of context. And we see it time and time again. And I seriously doubt that teams are logging on to extraskater or behindthenet, and using it as the main ingredient in rating or scouting players. But that is done here time and time again. And given far too much weight in forming opinions on players.
The bottom line with the analytics that are on those websites, is that while they're the best that we may have available to us at this point. They're still badly flawed, to the point where they aren't reliable to use as the main focus on evaluating players.

- MJL

Sure seems like you're the only who feels they're misused, and then only when it is contrary to your opinions.

You want to quote a former defenseman & a former ref, great. I'm going to agree with guys who have won Stanley Cups by using the kind of analytics found on the internet(note Lombardi pointing out that these numbers are readily available), by people who want to better interpret what they see on the ice and have something to quantify what they are watching.

Nobody who is serious about hockey analysis uses only statistical information. The guys who chart these numbers probably watch more games than the average NHL reporter. And nobody says that they should be the main focus of evaluation, either....except people putting words into others mouths in an attempt to discredit numbers that disagree with a personal bias.

With today's information age, there are tons of articles on websites detailing the flaws of analytics, and how they can be misused out of context. By the creators themselves. How Corsi and Corsi relative are flawed. How WOWY's can't determine if a player is good player or bad player. But it's been used repeatedly in that manner.
All those quotes you provided said is that they use them in part. They don't state how much influence they have in their decision making. And Bowman states that the analystics they use are proprietary. Which means the ones he uses aren't on the websites. All Lombardi said is that they're going to see if it works. So again, saying that they used these stats to win Stanley Cups, is as much of a misuse of the quotes, as the stats are being misused. It's a tool that should be used, and not ignored. But the stats are not capable of doing what many use them for. And there is plenty of material to back that up. And I'd be glad to have that discussion in depth. But there is a thread dedicated to that, which I'd be glad to provide the line to. Because I don't think the general membership of the board and this thread, wants it clogging it up. So here is the link. I'll be glad to discuss any analytic, and it's use in the proper context, on that thread.

There's a few guys in the UFA crop that are intriguing. If there was more cap space, I'd be happy with Emery returning.
