In the end We have Schultz, Ference, Petry, Klefbom, Marincin that could play with the team for another decade. Then we have Prospects such as Nurse in the minors that are maybe's but have good potential. We are also to believe MacT is going to get a number 1 this summer at all costs. At my calculation, someone becomes trade able. Maybe not Yak, maybe Nurse and something. What would we give up to have Ekblad and either Rein or Drais (whichever falls to us). Either could play this year but the two picks we would get would be amazing in 2 years.

We would be running in one spot if we moved a player 1.5 years into his career for a new Defenseman which is not really deemed to be a franchise dman just a good NHLer, maybe MAYBE a top pairing guy (likely a 2-3). Nurse has the same potential as Ekblad IMO with more of a mean streak and plays bigger.

We'd be better off moving the pick or sitting at 3 and taking a centre. Ekblad could also drop, like Jones.
