Hi Carol, I'd appreciate some insight into the team and what they are doing that isn't being reported in the local papers more than just a play by play of the news. Or at least some additional info into the potential candidates for GM/ coach.

Maybe you can call up guy Carbonneau and find out of he's interested in the Canucks situation and getting back into the nhl as a coach (assistant)...

- kaptaan

So all you want Carol to do is find the story that the 50 reporters who cover the Canucks day to day haven't got, even though there might not actually be a story because the only thing that's happening right now is Linden talking to potential GMs (and maybe a coach or two) who can't talk to reporters because they're all under contract with other teams currently? Good luck Carol!

Good effort today, kaptaan. You told Carol she is just re-treading old news and that Alex is a racist. With you around, who needs trolls!

I doubt the hits would be much higher, at least not enough to cripple the team. I saw great value in Burrows' old contract (2M), however on his second contract he left nothing on the table and still got a NTC. The Sedins left money on the table when signing their previous deal (maybe 1M each), however they still got contract increases (rather than decreases or the same rate) with full NTCs on their new deal. They both clearly love it here and didn't want to leave, yet MG couldn't negotiate a better deal?

There are those who say these players would have gotten more on the open market, but that's a bit of misnomer IMO and would only apply to Garrison and Hamhuis, who were actual UFAs (and even they both explicitly wanted to come home to Vancouver).

Re-signing players on your roster for less than UFA value is a regular feature around the league and shouldn't always require a NTC to get it done, given that it's in both sides' mutual interest. However, here we are...

- AlexF

Burrows absolutely left money on the table on his most recent contract. Look at the fours seasons he had prior to signing that deal. They were all great. 28+ goals, 50+ points. He's only locked up for 4 seasons too.

Look at what Clarkson got on the open market. And rumour is he turned down more from other teams. The money that gets tossed to UFAs on the open market is ludicrous.

How the hell did Babcock get nominated for the Jack Adams this year? The Red Wings moved to the weak Eastern Conference and promptly had their worst season in 19 years. They squeaked into the last playoff spot and had a negative goals for / against.

Their two best players, who are both approaching 58 years old, were out much of the year, they played with seven rookies' in the line-up for a lot of the season. He did pretty good considering the youthful line-up.

Four consecutive WHL Finals for the Winterhawks sounds good by me. Plus a solid group of players they have produced over the last 4 years

Ryan Johansen
Nino Niederreiter
Sven Baertschi
Joe Morrow
Seth Jones
Derrick Pouliot
Mathew Dumba
& Chase De Leo is going in the first round of this year
PLUS Canucks Prospect Cedarholm is having a solid year

Jack Adams is a joke. Look at the job Julien did in Boston. And Boudreau in Anaheim. Babcock gets nominated for the Jack Adams in his worst season in Detroit??? Most coaches would feel lucky to keep their jobs.

They had their 2 best players injured and I believe had close to the most man games lost to injury. They relied on the kids to play on the top 2 lines for most of the season. Imagine what would have happened here if we had lost a couple more players and had to have the farm produce 2/3's of our top 2 lines. We would have an even better pick that is for sure.

The 'general interest isn't there'? Do you have any understanding of the high school/ college demographic? There is a huge following for the NBA in places like Surrey and Richmond and east & south Vancouver... I think you aren't out in those parts of the greater metro area of the city so you might be a bit sheltered to the 'general interest'...

Try getting out and talking to some, ahem, 'different' people as it were...

- kaptaan

So, you think Surrey could support an NBA franchise?

Possibly, and I think with all the NTCs the California and Florida teams would be have to be considered at the top of the list.

Agree entirely. Jack Adams always tends to go to the coach of a team that the writers underrated or who's goalie stands on his head. Still can't believe Luongo won AV the Jack Adams and didn't win the Vezina for himself, let alone the Hart.

Wow, nice disguised commentary in calling me out as some sort of racist for saying that a sport that already tried and failed in a city would have a high risk of doing so again. There's a big difference between being interested in watching on tv and selling out arenas, whether your team stinks or is great.

When the Canucks struggled and the US to CAN exchange rate was low, even Brian Burke said he was one phone call away from relocating the franchise. And that's in a traditional hockey market. We're now seeing the CAN dollar starting to sag against the USD for the first time in a long time, meaning contracts here would be more expensive as they are paid in USD.

Try understanding how the business of sports works to run a financially successful franchise, "Kaptaan."

I'd agree with that if anyone but Steve Nash tried to bring another franchise here, having him involved as the face of an ownership group would absolutely bring all the corporate sponsorship needed to make an NBA franchise flourish here. Let's not forget the reason the Grizzlies failed was not because of lack of sponsorships or season tickets (that was only the symptom). It was because of us being hampered by the NBA Expansion Committee not allowing us to have the 1st overall pick in the draft for 5 years, or the ability to spend to the max salary cap. Not to mention horrible mismanagement by Stu Jackson and a player (Steve Francis) not wanting to play up here that gave the city a bad rap to prospective draftees.

The truth is that at the time Michael Heisley bought the team and moved it to Memphis, we had the beginnings of a decent core (Pau Gasol, Sharif Abdul-Raheem) and were poised to be competitive and make the playoffs. I maintain had we traded for (or drafted) Steve Nash, the franchise would still be here and if not flourishing, close to it.

It would be great if the league made a rule that you could only hand out 3-4 per team.
