I had heard from some good friends associated with USA hockey that he'd love to play with the LA Kings, and some of his team USA buddies (Quick, Brown etc.)

Not sure how the kings would make that work given cap restrictions, but he would jump at the chance..

Marty Biron was the last player that I remember to go test the market and get burned.
- brubacca

I remember when the Flyers signed Boucher and Emery as their goalies and then everyone else addressed their needs and Biron eventually HAD to signed for like $1.2 million with the Isles.

Good player, but the term and money he's gonna want is going to turn off the smarter teams.

He plays a physical game, but isn't the biggest guy so I'd worry about him breaking down. Brandon Morrow was one of those guys(in fact he was actually even bigger) and he hit a wall during his 32/33 year old season. Next year will be Callahan's 29/30 year old season, so ideally you'd only sign him to a 3(maybe 4 at best) year deal, but chances are that it's gonna take more than that. And if he does consider 3 years you'll have to overpay even more than you normally would have to.

Wouldn't that work with new and a higher cap next year? Think it's going up by $7 mill or something. I think they only have Greene as their main UFA this offseason.

Unless they sign Gaborik. He is earning it in this round!

I also edited my post a bit to backup my thinking.

I think (hope) Callahan stays with Tampa and leaves us and the Isles alone. We need them high picks next year. Perfect world we'd get both Eichel and McDavid

Vanek will be in a Wild jersey probably within the first hour of free agency.

- Jammerz04

I think the first step in rebuilding a team would be to find a legitimate captain. Someone with experience and with offensive or defense prowess. Without a true competitive guy, it will be hard to bank on two first round picks to do the job. Also, it is pretty certain that those picks would not play for a couple more years. Get a captain in first to give structure and identity to your team. Then go looking around for top prospects.

My two cents.

As a Devils fan I would take him. He has heart and plays very hard every game. We have been looking for Parise's replacement and this could be the guy. Isn't afraid to go to the front of the net (like Zach), good penalty killer (like Zach) , and is an offensive threat (like Zach.) If the asking price is right, I would sign him immediately.

The Sabres already have that type of guy on their team.Another year of seasoning and he will be wearing the C in my opinion.

I find it difficult to understand, if not believe that a 30 year old forward would have the worst team in the league as his top choice. A team that is probably 2-3 seasons away from being competent and competitive.

Regardless of where he's from, it seems counter intuitive to want to wait until the end of your prime to be playing meaningful hockey again.

If he we're 26 or 27 it would be a different story. Then you could stick it out for a few years in hopes of being part of a dynasty type of franchise for 5-8 seasons. This doesn't make sense.

I agree except the offensive threat part like Parise but I could see Lou inquiring about him and his asking price. I would rather have the Devils bring in some pure scorers then more "checking type" of players like Cally is.

Wouldn't make sence for Buffalo either. Our team will be bad for a long time but not bad enough to be picking number one or 2 the next few years.Buffalo will have to be build mainly from within and with heart and grit until Ownership can prove Buffalo is a distination F/A s should want to be a part of.

He isn't close to the player Parise is. You would be dissapointed quickly if that's what you are expecting.

He averages 46 points per 82 games played
Parise averages 67 points per 82 games played

I say he goes back to the Rangers, remember Sather backs up the Brinks truck on free agent day!!!!

I dunno. It can't be all about the money can it?! I have to believe there has to be a little bit of bitterness on Callys side of things. Captain of the team, alleged heart and soul of the team, want's to get paid from said team, gets traded only to get eliminated in the first round of the playoffs with tampa and is forced to watch "his" team advance to the 2nd round and possibly further!

IMO, only way he's coming back to the Rags is if he gets the max deal he's pining for and the Captain C back.

In other words more of what we already have in younger and less expensive players.I don't see TM persuing him but he would sell tickets and be a local fan favorite.

My opinion is Callahan has a comparable in Dustin Brown. A lot of heart and decent offensive production. (and a "C")

That said, I think Brown is way overpaid on his upcoming contract....
