What about SImmonds for Hampus Lindholm
- PhillySportsGuy

Again, no way. You don't move Simmonds unless you get a super-star, elite impact D right now.

And what I'm saying is that maybe Brayden isn't so sure yet either.

Offering Voracek, Schenn, Coots, and Coburn would be insane, literally. I think that is way too much. Remember, Nashville only wanted Schenn and Couts as the major parts of a deal for Weber... Do people forget this? That's why I don't think it will be an insane trade if someone was to land Weber, it'll cost a lot, but what is being discussed above is literally insane. Just my opinion though.
- Flyers_V88

No, they wanted them as well as Voracek and MAB. And that was when he was an RFA. And before they spent $26M on him to play only 120 games. The asking price is definitely higher (much higher) now.

So yes, it will take an insane deal to get him.

Nope...and you know how I feel about Maata. Not to mention there is a 0-0% chance of Philly and Pittsburgh trading significant assets.
- jmatchett383

Interesting. I'd do Simmonds for Maata in a heartbeat. Although I agree it would never happen.

That was back when JVR was also part of negotiations.

Realistically, I think they would want Coburn, Couturier/Voracek, Ghost/Morin, 2 first round picks.

Closer, but still no. Lindholm and Maata could turn into those guys, but they're not there yet.

Three straight almost 30 goal seasons in a row?? The guy is only going to get better. Whatever you trade Simmonds for you are selling low on him right now.
- FlyersSteve118

I'm not so sure I agree. Simmonds made strides in his play away from the puck this year, but he also had a career high 15 PP goals. Unless he can top that, I'm not sure he'll put up even more points.

I've been wrong before, though.

I posted in the other blog my thoughts on Vinny. My honest opinion is that he was still hurt. I think we are going to find that he plays really well to start the season and then begins to fade. As long as he's ok being moved down lines or occaisonally sat then I think he stays. He does have a really good one time shot and he has some speed when he chooses to use it.
Could you imagine buying him out right after the lightning did? He must either be cursed or blessed, hahaha... If we did and he went to another team he'd be bringing in 3 salaries

- FlyersGrace

Recovery time on his injury to 100% is an average 2 years. He missed what? 3 weeks?

The Flyers lose wayyy too much offense if Simmonds goes. We need a 60 point dman to replace him.

Not here to rub it in; here to compliment your team on a tough series.

Mason was lights out last night. If the team improves their defense, heading into next season, they should be right there again.

Also, hats off to the majority of the fans here, for being good sports and making great conversation. Stay classy, Philly!

Thanks, good luck in the 2nd round, feel free to cripple Neal!

Remember he was also stuck on that Schenn/VL line where they kept putting Vinny on the wing and it didn't work. That line was stuck in neutral for about 2 months.

I like Coby and would be fine with him as 2nd pair guy. But id definitely use him to get a top line winger.

Hartnel is way too slow for that top line and he doesnt have the skill level needed to play with a G. He isnt a possession guy, Jake is a possession guy.

I believe VLC had the most points on the team before his back fracture. He was solid when the rest of the team sans Matt Read were playing like poop.

1. I'd love if Kimmo could/would come back for one more year

2. Defensively, Coburn is a fine top pairing defenseman. A rock for them all season long.

3. They have the assets, but what's the cost? It's a huge need, but you can't gut the team for an overpriced top pairing defenseman either.

4. Hartnell played like garbage in the playoffs, but is still a good possession player who complements the top line well. When healthy, he still fits there.

5. Agreed

6. Completely disagree

So, our only 2 options are Erik Karlsson and Duncan Keith?

I would trade him for both of those guys.

What about Simmonds + 1st rounder for Shattenkirk & Sobotka

I don't think the Blues would do this. They are without a first rounder though.

That isn't an insane trade at all.... The offers containing the players mentioned above is insane. That's like gutting the meat from your roster. I get Nashville had to pay that money, but I think if a deal comes along to make their team better in the now, they'll do it, despite the monetary aspect.

Even when VL played center on the second line, they were horrible. Just a horrible mix of a line that kept getting slammed down our throats.

I wouldn't trade them unless a great deal came along. I don't think they're both useless players like most people.
- PhillySportsGuy

Yup, I'd rather clear cap space (Kimmo, Vinnie cough cough) and go after Niskanen or stralman

For sure, an improvement of the 2nd line could certainly help. That line killed the Flyers this season (at even-strength).

But you can look at the numbers (the ones I concocted in my cauldron) and it shows that, even factoring in linemates, Brown Butter isn't a very good player at even-strength.

Yes...that trade was [B]BEFORE HE WAS SIGNED TO THE NEW DEAL. Are you just not getting the difference between the situation then and now? They are 100% different situations.

Yes but the second line has been in shambles all year. And the stretch that he played with the Hart Schenn Simmonds line, he looked incredible at even strength. This was when Simmonds was going on 8 game point streaks and 14 points in 12 games.

I think his even strength play is only because of a lack of consistency and real talent on the second line. Also, statistically players put up their best numbers of their careers at age 26. He is 25 now. If we somehow stabilize the second line and he plays the way he has been and contributes during his "peak year", I think we will see much more out of Simmer.

I disagree. Simmonds is wonderful. But I think you can move him without opening the huge hole trading say Vorachek would do to this team.
everyone is high on him because of his hat trick which I have to agree was something spectacular but I don't think he's untouchable and I think a solid up and coming D man would be worth it, and damn Maata has been good. and I HATE the Penguins. Get that poor kid out of that system before they turn him into a D-bag...

26 years old. One of the top face-off men in the league. Very good defensively. Decent speed. Could score more if he was given more offensive opportunities. (33 points last season)

Tye McGinn was also the Flyers leading scorer at one point. You can't shoot 40% over the course of a full season. Vinny got lucky early on, then reality and injuries set in.
