Actually Schenn's deal is full of possible bonuses which count against our cap but don't actually go to the player unless he reaches them. That said we could probably re-sign him on a bridge deal which would make both sides happy. The player would actually see more of the money and our cap hit will probably not adjust very much.

The cap hit will go down, but the money in Schenn's pocket will go up.

For all the respect people give the Kings organization, this was a ridiculous contract they signed Schenn to.

Above all else, the Rangers won the series at even strength. New York controlled the five-on-five play for the decided majority of the series, and were at their most dominant in the middle period last night.

...

From a Flyers standpoint, it is extremely disappointing and frustrating to lose a series in which the club a) got outstanding goaltending in five of the seven games, b) held Rick Nash without a goal the entire series, c) rendered Lundqvist a non-factor in the series (not always for their own benefit, though) and d) were significantly better than their opponent in special teams.

- bmeltzer

This team has to get better at even-strength, and that means developing an overall team philosophy centered on puck management and possession.

They need more forwards like Akeson, Giroux, Voracek who can make quick/smart decisions with the puck and snappy passes.

They can't afford to carry dead weight like Hal Gill and Vinny any longer... with the nature of kids being up and down, they can't afford vets who are passengers instead of drivers.

Overall it wasn't a bad season, though.

Couturier and Baby Schenn took tangible strides forward. Mason's pretty much silenced any lingering doubts about his mental fortitude. Raffl and Akeson proved to be gamers (hopefully they won't be Gus'd this summer/next season). And the team was somehow plucky enough to make the PO's, when they probably shouldn't have been there.

His cap hit will probably decrease, to be honest. He's only owed a 10% increase in a tendered offer, which is $990K. So I don't think he'll be asking for more than $2.25M.
- jmatchett383

Im pretty sure he'll get either the exact same contract as coots or just a slightly higher.

I'll admit I was wrong about Akeson. To me, he's earned a fair look at training camp next year. If nothing else, Akeson >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Kadri and Stepan both had 18G/25A/44P
Schenn had 20G/21A/41P

Not a big difference. And, since they were playing first line, I'd argue Schenn's numbers are more impressive since he was on the second line (less talented players to play with).

Giroux a finalist for the Hart trophy.

- MBFlyerfan

He won't get it, but this is a case where it IS an honor to be nominated. Good for him. Not that he'll feel any better today. But he'll have fun in Vegas.

We're all guilty of making hasty calls on guys.

I was wrong about Streit as a player in year-1 of the deal, and hopefully I'll continue to be wrong in years 2-4 as well, because for better or worse, they're going to be leaning on him pretty hard for awhile.
