The only top defenseman I could see becoming available is Subban.

Montreal has been up an down with him. It's becoming apparent that he wants a massive deal and the Habs may not feel he's worthy of it.

It would take a Pronger like package to bring him here. I'm thinking Couts, Morin and 2 firsts for him.

I know some people aren't big fans of his, but I think he's a very good player. His maturity has gotten better, but still needs improvement.

He's the only #1 dman I can see being available without massively overpaying.

- PhillySportsGuy

By the way, if we trade Couturier, then all we're left with is Giroux, an overrated non-power power forward (Schenn), a proven bust (Laughton), and an overpaid useless cripple (Lecavalier). So we CAN'T trade Coots.

It's a gamble, but I'd gamble that Simmonds just had his peak season and sell high.

Granted, I'm not saying trade just to trade him. It has to be in the right deal for a very good (preferably young) defenseman who can play 23+ minutes a night.

now you're trading simmonds

I think Coburn would look a lot better with a more skilled defenseman. Timonen isn't a top pairing guy anymore. If Coburn had a guy like Niskanen and could focus on just being good defensively, I think he'd be a very good player.

His pass to Gill was a bad one, but 95% of NHL defenseman kick that puck up to their skates and move the puck before the opposition can steal it.

- PhillySportsGuy

Yeah, the pass was bad, but the pass needs to be corralled by Gill.
If we're gonna tear a guy apart, to me, it's AMac. A lot of failed clears and lazy/soft plays on the puck all series long.

Maybe get Brent Burns from SJ. He could play nicely with Giroux. Huge dude that can skate. Sj is probably going to blow things up

But Couturier and Morin are established first round picks. The 2 future ones are unknown and probably not as highly touted as these two guys. But if the idea is to overpay to make sure that the deal goes through I understand.

Just saying that a known player is way more valuable than a future pick.

- FlyersSteve118

An offer sheet is a possibility, but it would need to be a huge deal and I don't think the Flyers have the cap space to do it. They'd need to move players anyway.

Couts is a checking line center with no potential to get better. He's a glorified Blair Betts.

I said I'm gambling that this is his peak season.
- bradleyc4

Which means Homer tears up his current deal and reups him for 1.5x the amount and includes NMC's.

Brayden Schenn is a 22 year old who already has a 20 goal season under his belt. Why the hell does everyone want to get rid of him so badly?
- FlyersSteve118

And how did he do in the series? He is not a top 6 fwd, he is nothing more then a grinder. Since he is still not signed, I would imagine he wants a big payday and he is not worth it.

I've come around on him the past year. Still, I'd have a hard time moving Coots for anyone other than about 6 players, and Subban isn't one.
BTW, those players are:

Shea Weber
Ryan Suter
Drew Doughty
Duncan Kieth
Alex Pietrangelo
Erik Karlsson

I'll take a team full of grinders that can score 20+ goals.

I don't think they blow it up, but there needs to be a change. I'm thinking Captain Joe may be on his way out.

Subban is going to get a huge deal. 8mil minimum I am pretty sure. (Probably higher.) If the flyers want him they are going to have to do a bit of cap juggling.

I think, personally, that the flyers should just steer clear of the whole Subban situation.

I disagree... He made some strides this year... he's beginning to physically mature and he has good hands. Hell he got knocked off the puck so much LY and now he's the guy muscling ppl off. The kid is 21. I think he can be a 20 goal scorer and a shutdown defensive forward. I'm hoping Flyers are able to mold Laughton the same way they've done w/Couturier slowly giving Couturier more offensive responsibility. Need to practice patience w/these younger guys.

Agreed. If it gets to August and there hasn't been any progress, I'd inquire with intent. But I wouldn't target him.

I would definitely inquire about him. We know the Canadiens really love Morin.

Brayden Schenn had 5 points in the month of April and was a minus player. And the 2 goals he did score in that month were against a Buffalo team that mailed it in.

This is just a rough sketch and I'm sure there are #fancystats acolytes (I like #fancystats, fwiw) that someone will tell me how great BSchenn has been, but it hasn't shown up on the scoreboard and he sure hasn't been noticeable on the ice lately.

But please don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining. This franchise needs more from Brayden Schenn.

I understand he is young, but he's been handed a top 6 role, so he needs to be far more consistent and productive for this team to go anywhere.

We have a team full of KIDS. I am sorry that I don't want them to trade key parts and stay the course. I really think Schenn will develop into something in a few years. The main point of that is Schenn is still trying to find his game as a 22 year old KID. He still managed to score 20 goals in doing so. In a few years I think he will be a star second line center.

He is an RFA. He is going to get about 1.5 to 2mil in a 2 year bridge deal the same as couturier.
