Will you be able to find a vet better and cheaper than Niemi?
Unless they can find someone better they should just play Niemi and Stalock 50/50 until one takes the net and ride the hot hand. Maybe a little competition will force Niemi to start playing like a Stanley Cup winning goalie again. - FinAddict

Serious question. If you guys had to toss one of Thorton or Marleu, who would it be |

Ask me that last season, or any season before and it would be Patty. This year, I'm finally done defending jumbo joe. It's Joe, 100%. |

So we need a defenseman who is fast/skilled enough skate it out and make a first pass. This dman should also have a hard shot with a fast release so he can play the point/QB the power play. It would also help if he was big and strong so he could clear out the front of the net when he is in his own zone. Not many dmen fall into this category. And the amount you would have to trade and pay for him would be really high.
Where are we gonna find this guy? And how can we get him?
Oh yeah, Brent Burns. For free |

I am also over this BS notion around the NHL now that the captain has to be the most offensive forward. Let the forwards worry about scoring because clearly Joe Thornton cant score and lead. And lets make a defenseman the captain. Someone who can lead by example with tough, smart defensive play
Captain – Vlasic
Alternate – Pavelski
Alternate – Couture

I don't think anyone has ever said that's what we need. And plus, Burns is definitely better suited for the role he is in now than as a Dman.
What this team needs is leadership and character. If it were all about the skill, we'd still be in the playoffs, but it's evidently not, and the Sharks should have learned that years ago.
I hate to say it, but after this postseason, there is no question that this team can only go as far as Thornton and Marleau will take them, and that's not very far. Thornton needs to be moved, or at the very least lose the C.
Ideally, we can find a trade to dump Thornton or Marleau, release Havlat and Burish, and move forward with a ton of cap space into this free agency to sign some guys with more heart. Honestly, I'd love to see Iginla and/or Callahan brought in, even if it means overpaying them. Iggy on a 2 year deal worth 5 mil aav and Callahan on a 6 year deal worth 6 mil aav. It's a lot of money to give a guy who likely won't give us much more than 50 points per season, but a guy like him is the piece this team has been missing. |

Thornton undoubtedly. He folded like I've never seen him fold this postseason. Marleau at the least brings us that speed every team needs. One of the fastest skaters in the league even at his age. |

Stastny is going to command a ton of money for his playoff performance and I don't think he's worth it.
I'd like to see our forwards look like this:
Marleau-Pavelski-Callahan
Burns-Couture-Iginla
Nieto-Shepard-Hertl
Torres-Desjardins-Wingels

I will say though having Rinne in goal would be quite reassuring. |
