Still need more skill on the backend too. I think their personnel was really exposed this series. Yea, the forwards can come all the way back and "help", but other teams that have a better mix of D don't need their forwards to come back to make up for the backend deficiencies as much. I'd rather be that team
- eayost

Absolutely...I think they have a bullet to shoot with that. They have the ability to upgrade it. The cap shouldn't be as tight as it has been lately

holmgren is not the problem. the guy has done more good for this team than bad. even when he's made mistakes he's corrected them... bryz was a mistake - cbo was not. trading bob for a 2nd was a mistake - acquiring mason for a 3rd was not. the richie and carts deals were BIG wins. OS on Weber was fantastic - still wish we got him at any cost.
- moylander

D is still a disaster. Streit, I am happy with. Schenn was ok. Everyone else was pretty disappointing this series.

What does being blind have to do with what I said which was He lead the team in scoring this playoffs.

6 points in 7 games and was a +2.
Not great, not horrible , not enough from your captain and best player but not a black hole like Couturier, Hartnell, Raffl, VL and others.

- opeth_pa

6 points in 4 games.
0 points in 3 games.

Coots was bad. Hartnell was a train wreck. Raffl wasn't supposed to put up points. Kid had 22 points in the regular season. Not one player could keep up with the Rangers, hard to imagine VL being able to.

They needed more from everyone. Their coach was a let down to me.

I think it's fair to say, had Mason played all series they would have won this in 6.

Coburn was the best Flyers d man.

Schenn was solid in his lesser minutes role. He did 'play' with the puck too much and is still struggling with moving the puck quickly and effectively.

Tremendous series guys. We both hate Pitt, hope my team can take them out. Nothing sweeter than seeing the Penguins home early in the playoffs.

Flyers surprised me in winning 3 games in this series.
They scored more than I thought they would too.

Are you trying to replace PLindbergh31 as the leader of Team Negative?

I thought so, too...I mean, seriously. That was encouraging. We can't afford to have him bust

I think some of the young players showed some growth. The Flyers will be better next year if they can somehow snag a top 6 winger who is a no-bullpoop, shoot first, 30-goal scorer who can skate, because then you can move Raffl down, which strengthens the fourth line

- AllInForFlyers

I think our team will be greatly improved if we shift our overall defensive skill set to being faster, and more two-way, instead of slower and specialized like it is now. To me personally, that means getting rid of Grossmann, letting Kimmo go, giving Gus a shot as a starter, giving Ghost a legit shot at a starting spot, and possibly bringing in a two-way guy like Niskanen. Maybe something like
Coburn - Gus/NewTalent
Streit - MacDonald
Schenn - Ghost

I'm excited to see how Ghost performs defensively. He won a collegiate best defensive defenseman award, so his two-way game has the potential to surprise.

Gus is a step in the right direction at least.
His wheels were obvious, in comparison to the rest of the defense corp.

It was not a tremendous series. It was pretty boring and tame for both teams.

If any other Flyers dmen is tasked with what Coburn was tasked with, ice time and one-on-one matchups the Flyers don't make it to game 6.

That is what I saw...Schenn was good in his role, showed improvement, but Coburn was doing the heavy lifting

So Like i said..he lead the team in playoffs this year. 6 points in 7 games isn't good enough but he lead the team in points.

Agreed on everything else you said.

Waiting for news on Hartnell and Coburn's head statuses.
- feelingkettle

Hartnell 3 points +/- 0
Schenn 3 points +/- -2

Coburn had a TERRIBLE series. So bad that i really would trade him. If a team can't complete a pass, is that on the coach or the players alone?

He was pretty terrible. And without Mason there to save his bacon every (frank)ing turnover in front of the net, he would rightfully have been run out of town.
